Trumpet Clip is not a strong enough song to stick in the middle of 6 downbeat tracks,as it is on Eventually, but it is a good momentum builder if placed properly. It's a great groove. to my ears, there has never been a better b side than "trumpet clip". i like the track, and while i agree that it doesn't fit the mood necessarily with the rest of eventually as it is, i still think it belongs as a funny, much-sought-after-because-tommy-plays-on-it-too b side. not a dig, but an observation: i'll bet you hate "runaway wind" as well. opinions are opinions. mine is no more "valid" than yours, i suppose, but i do need to take some exception here. a.) you put "all that i had" on eventually, but to my ears it suffers some/all of the same flaws you think "angels walk" possesses. i like "all that i had" just fine, and was pleased as punch to had it when it was released a couple years back, but my initial reaction was to notice its schmaltzyness. now, i like schmaltz when done right, so it doesn't bother me, but still. b.) i doubt pw would throw anyone he tossed out of the control room "a bone". at any rate, i'm not trying to convince you i am right. i am just making observations. even at his most schmaltzy, i don't know that anyone should throw down a brett michaels comparison. that's probably my thesis statement.

i find it interesting that paul is anti-internet, yet his *only* means of output since folker has been the internet.
not a criticism, but an observation.

any "eventually" that keeps trumpet clip but bags angels walk is no "eventually" for me.

Yeah, it's not the Faces without Rod. I think Ronnie should be the singer if they're gonna do it- he sang my favorite Faces tune anyway (Ooh La La). i'm pretty sure ron wood sang ooh la la.. not 100%, but the upper 90s.

they should do a revolving singers thing... like the surviving members of mc5 did early this century.
paul should for sure sing on the upcoming mpls date :-)

i l-o-v-e all the al green talk! great catch on the horn riff. after reading this thread, i popped al green's greatest hits onto my ipod.
the only somewhat thread related thing i will bring up is motherless child is a super old song. it's way older than clapton.

watched the debut last week, and found it pretty lame. the characters are as broad as can be, but without the wit of the cohen brothers.
it's not a terrible show, and the premise seems good, but i found myself rolling my eyes at the characters for the entire show.

in reading (and participating in) this thread, i think what is important is that we all (right?) reallyreallyreally want to see paul play more live dates & be living, breathing artist who wants his art appreciated by old & new fans. we want him to enjoy it, and not do anything for the wrong reasons, but selfishly we reallyreallyreally want him to step on stage every now & again & blow us away.
now, add in tommy, and maybe slim, and maybe even chris, and everything gets all screwed up, and camps start to appear in the fandom. i think one camp, the one i am in, sees reunions as truly tricky business that rarely work & even sometimes tarnish memories; even if they have the best intentions.
to me, the way out for the artist(s) in question is to use an "reunion" as a loose excuse to continue on in a direction that both respects the memories & looks forward to say to fans, "the best might still be to come". to me, the artist(s) should not announce a "reunion" with tourdates (read: a beginning & end), but maybe announce, "hey, i/we am going to get together with this old bandmate of mine/ours. we're going to write a bit, record some tracks with some friends, and maybe play a show or two to see how people react..."
let the chips fall where they will. that is what i hope for paul.

i am anti-reunion show. would i go see it, though, if it happened? probably. i'm probably a hypocrite about it, but the only way i will know is if there is a reunion show.
(i still sort of hope it doesn't)

Read it. He's not going anywhere to play live. Can you say F-U-C-K-E-D? Not going anywhere meaning we'd have to go to his house to see him play live, or not going anywhere as in we'd have to go to MPLS to see him play live? Just wondering if he leaves the possibility open of playing local shows. My understanding from previous interviews is that he doesn't hate playing live, he just hates touring/traveling, so hoping he's still open to playing shows near home. he should do another 3 nights @ the pantages theater. that was fun.

i've got a bunch of mats albums on vinyl, and they are wonderful. i think mine are original pressings minus the clear blue vinyl reissue of 'lib'.
the westerberg catalog will probably never be released on vinyl except for niche albums like 'dms'.
