Chrisars is probably out of practice since he was so involved in his art . Slim did a good job but he never was a Mat . Only a hired hand . I would go see Paul and Tommy with a few new hired hands . Can some guys from Soul Asylum fill in ? Just to keep the MPLS theme . SCREW AXL back when "paul & the painkillers" were about to play their initial mpls dates at the pantages theater, back when no one knew who was in the band, i called: paul - git/vox tommy - bass/vox dave pirner - drums/vox dan murphy - git/vox

i voted for reinterpretations of older songs too. but not by cats. that is ridiculous. maybe zebras. true 'dat. i stand corrected. quite. i have said it a million times before, and i will say it again: the chemistry between tommy & paul is like lightning in a bottle. i really don't want a 'mats reunion; especially if mars is only there for moral support, a photo, and backing vox. but i would give one of my kidneys to have tommy/paul team up for another band (NOT called the replacements). maybe have gersh play drums.

honestly, i think many of us (i certainly do) have all the b sides, and bootlegs we can deal with/or that exist.
new songs are great, but i am hesitant. there really is no replacements unless they are a functioning entity. trying to recapture the spirit in the studio might go a long way to tainting their legacy; at least in the minds of assholes like me.*
i vote for reinterpretations of older songs. done by older, wiser cats. in fact, i say the boxset should be called "i.o.u.", and i would like to hear an acoustic version of it.
*i am TOTALLY looking forward to the two new songs in june!

right. i just read something once again about how sorry ma, and stink are basically hd albums.
bollocks. total bollocks.
as stated, the bands were playing off of one another creatively, and they may both have been drawing from the "punk" well at first, but then you might as well say x & minor threat are the same bands.

My wishlist would include a 4 cd box set of the whole catalog with b-sides like If Only..., 20th Century Boy, Temptation Eyes, etc. A DVD documentary with interviews and live footage. A full, all out book by Peter Jesperson on his whole experience with the Mats. (l to r: scooter, tomt, slim dunlap)

oh, this is positively making me ooze with anticipation... of course, the oozing might in fact be because of my headcold, but still!
may can't come soon enough. for a lot of reasons, actually.

i've never watched a second of the show, but i do know that they have featured a matthew ryan song before, so there is obviously a (good) music lover involved somewhere over there.

that would be awesome. strangely enough, i believe that a prince/westerberg collaboration would actually work in a weird way. not sure about dylan, though, oddly enough.

marah! definitely in spirit & occasionally in sound. the only thing holding them back is a lack of cohesion within the band. serge & dave are the only "regulars" album to album it seems. seeing them again on feb. 8th, and i am looking forward to it.
lucero definitely as well.

sorry, another suggestion. again, not 'mats related, but matt's bar is awesome for their jucy lucys (yes, that is the proper spelling).
you're not a vegetarian are you?

it's not really 'mats related, but i always have out of towners check out the sculpture garden at the walker art center. i really love the place.
and if you are getting in on tuesday, that means the conservatory will be open there, so you can see the "city" in the floor tile, and the big glass fish.
