i know i am not the first person to have this thought, but i think paul's voice is much better (read: more power & mats like) when he is standing in front of a band. or at least recording with other people. this is totally natural, too. i have a 4 track that i record with in the basement, and i am more timid when i am singing to myself than i am with a drummer & a bassist wailing away. there is something about yelling over din that makes for great vocal moments. So when can we expect you to be posting these wailings? Is there video of this you can share? didn't you see those video clips of me doing paul songs? they were posted here awhile ago.

Like someone said earlier, the voice isn't in the greatest form, but the heart is there. i know i am not the first person to have this thought, but i think paul's voice is much better (read: more power & mats like) when he is standing in front of a band. or at least recording with other people. this is totally natural, too. i have a 4 track that i record with in the basement, and i am more timid when i am singing to myself than i am with a drummer & a bassist wailing away. there is something about yelling over din that makes for great vocal moments.

I think its a record that started out Mats (merry Go Round) and then just ended up with Paul in the studio (The Last)... i think this is a good way of putting it. even if it isn't entirely factually correct, i think i like this way of looking at it.

Now, having done Hollywood, Westerberg considers his options. Somehow, doing another film score isn’t at the top of his list. “I’ll write another song for another film,” he suggests, “ but after hearing strings and orchestras on everything for two and half years, I just want to get a guitar, a bass and some drums and make the most garagelike, nasty piece of crap I can.” Now THAT is some damned exciting news! hell yes! (just include your only friends in the process, please!)

im sure paul is plenty happy with the money he will make by doing this soundtrack.Soundtrack work is some of the most profitable you can get in the music business.Im sure he'll make a shitload of money from doing open season so really he needs to not bitch about it.He'll make more money than most people make in 7 years and thats a fact! kathy, if i may be so bold, let me take your response to blake a step more to the blunt side of the street: god, just shut the hell up.

for the record, the alternate version of 16 blue crushes the album version. i have long maintained that. The Boink!! version, right? I even like the coughing. you know.... i don't have boink, so i can't say. i got my version along with street girl 1, 2; temptation eyes; perfectly lethal; etc. it is basically the same song with a pronounced piano throughout. gorgeous.

I think it's a great idea. Here's something I did fairly quickly. It's not really "done", but it's got potential. I scanned Paul in from an old 'zine cover. I think it was Spin. It's one of my favorite pics of PW. Should work on a small scale for yer iPod at least. home.comcast.net/~mcpollick/pw_os_cov1.jpgTWANGGG!!! -Dewey isn't that one of the brothers gallagher?

I thought the EP version of I Belong was one of the better things he's ever done. His version of Wild As I Wanna be was a bit disappointing. I hate to say it but I liked the bubblegum/Bay City Rollers production of the Deathray version better. I will step out on the ledge with you, so to speak, and say I like the Deathray version better as well. I know it's heresy, but there it is. a thousand hail marys for both of you!

i don't know why, but if i like an album, i can never skip a song. Even trumpet clip. yup, i agree, but trumpet clip does try my patience.

"Forgettable" is one of those criticisms that crosses the line from opinion and into factual inaccuracy. There are a lot of valid critiques of the soundtrack, but "forgettable" isn't one of them. Even you hate Right to Arm Bears, you're almost guaranteed to be humming it for hours after hearing it. exactly. i couldn't agree more. in fact, i said the same thing on earlier on this thread. ;D

Eye of the beholder. I have been playing Right to Arm Bears over and over. Catchy as hell and easily in my top 30. All these songs all holding up well for me even after a dozen listens. i absolutely love this soundtrack (if i skip deathray, yorn & heads). sure, some of the songs are cartoony, but shit people. they are songs for a cartoon. like i said on a different thread, right to arm bears is one of the only songs that wouldn't stand up on its own on another album, but that doesn't change the fact that i listen to it constantly. and yes, my 4 year old loves it. nicely done, paul.

here's the deal. of COURSE i am going to defend paul's songs, but i have to say that if i distance myself from my love for the guy i think at the very minimum, the VERY MINIMUM, "the right to arm bears" is so goddamn catchy & MEMORABLE it is crazy.
honestly, i am trying to be objective. i'm not saying it is a great song or a shitty song. i am just saying that paul really hit it out of the park if catchy & memorable is what he was looking for.

The MWT site gets a couple citations. We should see a spike in members here, esp. among the spikey-haired kids that the Wall Street Journal figures are PW fans. Since "Good Day" is the original version, the publishing credits are Paul's. Does that mean he'll get more royalties than on the songs he wrote under contract for the movie? Smart move, if so. On a side note, would Sony's share on the publishing rights to the Open Season songs limit Paul's ability to release the 20 or so outtake songs? Will we ever hear the Resterberg of the story? the last one is of extreme interest to me ;D

why would anyone have to outgrow paul? he is a fabulous musician who is aging well if you ask me. asking someone when he is going to grow out of the ramones is a little more understandable, but still... my answer to that one, too, is fucking never.
