So according to a guy that called in...."Message to the Boys", "Sadly Beautiful" and "Lush & Green" are about the same person...
It totally makes sense that Westerberg didn't show up, I have to agree.

Do these people think that PW's done nothing since 1991?
All the "clones" are upset that their guy was stood up. Funny.

If Paul doesn't have a real reason for the no-show, then screw him. Tiresome games.
Even if he had, for example, a family emergency or such, he could still have left a message to explain his absence.

At least Rome gets the no-show. He'd probably chuckle had it happened to a different media guy. It's kinda funny, you can rave about them being unpredictable and thumbing their nose at the establishment.....but then get pissed when they do it to you.... ...I can totally see PW waking this morning and saying, 'screw it, I dont feel like doing that today.'

opportunity knocks once and the door slams shut. Aw c'mon (c'mon, c'mon) do you really think that 5 minutes worth of Paul's voice is really the deal-breaker for millions of potential converts? Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed. But that's our boy for ya. Another disappointment: Mr. Rome didn't press the tour question hard enough IMHO. Has any discussion taken place at *all* about a tour? What are the obtacles? N

just another Replacements antic. reminds me of the old days when they were completely unpredictable. the obvious question would be asked if you got those two together and maybe Paul didn't want to face some truths. maybe Paul was chaperoning a field trip for his son or something. it was great hearing Tommy and he certainly didn't totally squash any chance for a reunion. just the fact that he didn't totally deny any chance after Paul didn't show give me a bit of hope

Wow, someone at Rhino is having a REALLY bad day at work right about now. What a clusterfvck. details? No details, just an assumption based on being in marketing for 15 years....there actually is such a thing as bad publicity. This was supposed to be about the song. And now the takeaway is about the "no-show" and whether Paul is being a dick or not being a dick. That's not a successful promotion. Not to mention creating a lot of ill will with a media figure who has been a huge supporter.

"But that's our boy for ya" is a very lame excuse.
It may come as par for the course when following Paul, but it doesn't mean one should so easily accept it, apologize for it, and swallow such sh1tty treatment from our idols wholesale.

Paul is the most gracious artist i've ever met to his fans. period. i'd love to (hate to)see Madonna or any other artist do a meet and greet after every show.

Swallow the treatment? Hearing a radio interview with a sports talk DJ is no great shakes...fun and interesting..but so what. We did get two new songs, which is the bigger picture. I've seen PW give more than enough time to fans over the past 4 years....which makes stiffing Rome all the more amusing. I agree with wolf and picture him saying...huh, changed my mind. I do feel for Darren a bit.

It's sad that Paul has blown this opportunity.

I keep the artist and the art seperate....I don't let knowledge that an artist is an insufferable prick, for example, change my appreciation of their work. (im speaking general terms, I didnt find PW to be insufferable....)

Marketing and pw don't seem to mix. He's good to the fans at the shows and that's all that matters.
A couple of new tunes, some remasters, maybe a box set, that's enough. Time to move on and the let the pixies, etc. play the nostalgia game.

So what?.....Paul didn't make it. Did he decide not to do it last minute? Was Johnny home sick? Did he just get all caught up in "Plinko" on the Price is Right? Who knows. He has done Romes show before (march 30th this year had some excerpts for those interested) and I have seen this guy too many times spend WAY longer than necessarry hanging out by his bus to talk to fans to think this guy would go "Rock Star". And as we tell the kids at home, "You get what ya get and don't throw a fit"

To paraphrase a cliche Boston sports fans will recognize, "it was just Paulie being Paulie." I agree, he's been gracious to his fans, but that's preaching to the converted -- easy. I hope he never complains about lack of recognition or bad reviews or commercial success because no one to blame but himself. If there's a legit excuse, fine, otherwise it was just a dopey move for a gig that he could have done without losing any of his precious self-respect or dignity. I mean, he could have said "no" in the first place.
My frustration aside, I hope it's not because he's passed out somewhere.

He's good to the fans at the shows and that's all that matters. And, in this case, bad to the fans (and potential new ones) who might have been listening for him (not unrealistically, I might remind. 'Twas pre-arranged). Also note that not all fans can go to his shows. So it's not all that that matters. I mean, he could have said "no" in the first place. Exactly right! He could have had that sleep-in, and his listening audience could've not got legit expectations that he'd be live in their ears for a 'Mat Chat (TM).
