There's that quote from Tim Rogers the bandleader that he never knows which Paul he wants to be: Stanley, Weller, or Westerberg. huh. on the album i have, if i had to pick, i would say "stanley". i may have to revisit it, though.

you know? i have their album from a few years back called "sound as ever", and i really don't like it all that much. i listened to the amazon samples for their new one, "convicts", and i am shocked by how much better it sounds to me than the earlier album i own. perhaps i should give them another shot. That was their first CD. do you listen to them a lot? i ask because i wonder if i am correct in the assumption that "convicts" is a lot better than the one i have. "sound as ever" may be a victim of its time. i think it came out in the early 19grungies, and it shows... or sounds on the album. there is a baaaaad guitar fx pedal used throughout the album. one that makes the guitars sound "heavy". the new one just sounds more honest in its approach. i like the samples i have heard a lot.

not having prince on the cover is a horrible, horrible oversight, and negates any authority the book might seek to maintain. yanni isn't even homegrown.

that is really my favorite song off of 14 songs. it is awesome, and i like her version quite a bit. tom, finding beauty in unlikely places, etc.

Love Untold I believe Paul once said that the solo in that song is what ruined it as a "radio friendly" hit. It's perfectly nasty. i was going to say that one, too. love it.

All of the above are amazing, especially the bum note in 'Runaway Wind' that stops it from being too pretty. agree with everyone on runaway wind; especially the above observation. i don't have "stink" with me at work, but i think it is 'fuck school' that has a smoking solo. if i remember correctly, it sort fizzles out, but it starts strong. really strong. also, i agree with paul's comment that bob's soloing in 'customer' is "... hotter than a urinary infection..."

one thing that i don't think has been mentioned here yet is that in the book, laurie says that paul (ca. 1993) calls her "god damn angel".
"you're a god damn angel. thank god yer mine."

I'd gladly take another Mono over fourteen 14 Songs. Just gimme noise. not me... well, maybe. what i mean is that i would love another 'mono', but put together with other musicians in a studio.

i suspect it's because of both. we're happy he has 60 new songs because it means he is a frightfully productive mode, and out of that 60 there has to be at least 2 proper albums of fantastic material.

As for his recording career, the singer-songwriter recently sent 60 songs to his... Damn, that is GREAT news um, yeah.

ok I admit the video is pretty lame but at least you can hear him clearly. We were in row L center main floor. I am sure MPR will post cleaner versions but enjoy this until then. youtube.com/watch?v=QpuXtj1FQIsoutstanding! did you get "goddamned angel"?

GENIUS. Btw. Thanks on behalf of all of us who couldn't make it - sounds like we missed the social hootenanny of the year for both paul and all of the boarders. it was better than i had expected, to be honest. i am really glad i went. my g/f & i almost bailed because we were running really late, but i would be kicking myself if we had... ... speaking of kicking myself, it was funny to hear the title of the upcoming rhino zuzu's retrospective: "kicking our own asses"

So, if PW plays 1-2 songs, what will they be? Any guesses? dead flowers with zuzu's petals & everyone else in a "rock & roll hall of fame" closing moment. i don't know, really, but that would be pretty much straight awesome.

my personal favorites - the Posies Fishbone was popular in '89... I saw fans walkout after they played and not hang around for the Mats... wow. talk about a mismatch.
