Wow, nice surprise! Wish there would have been a live show from that era included, though.

Damn they know how to get a quick $110 from me but the Dead Man's Pop box set was so well done. Looking forward to this!

It looks like a nice set. I do want to support them with these releases. I'll probably go with the deluxe ed LP+CDs. I don't have any need for the tote or tee shirt, or even a 5th copy of that record to be honest, but the demos look interesting. Besides the rough mixes, though, is there anything that hasn't been (unofficially) heard? That 2-cd "PTMM Sessions" set that was going around was pretty comprehensive. I have to dig that up.

After Rhino's colossal fuck up with DMP I'm very dubious about ordering from them again. I'm interested, but I'm not giving them more money. I feel they treated all the people who ordered last time like complete idiots. Maybe I'll buy it from Discogs or Ebay after it's been released.
Also, all the bonus crap is complete junk. What am I gonna do with a paper place mat? Get the fuck outta here!

I'm more excited about it now that I've learned/realized that the LP is the roughs/demos, not the official release remastered. I don't feel like I'm buying the same thing for the 4th time. It's closer to a DMP thing than a remaster with some extras. After Rhino's colossal fuck up with DMP I'm very dubious about ordering from them again. I'm interested, but I'm not giving them more money. I feel they treated all the people who ordered last time like complete idiots. Maybe I'll buy it from Discogs or Ebay after it's been released. I can't blame you for feeling that way. The ordering process today was stupid - they waited until the very end of the process to tell me I wasn't logged in, rather my passwords didn't match, which I'd entered 3 screens back and never got a "invalid login" message. Long story short, I didn't have an account, even though i certainly did when I ordered DMP a year ago. So I had to start from scratch. They made it as difficult as possible. Also, all the bonus crap is complete junk. What am I gonna do with a paper place mat? Get the fuck outta here! I don't personally have any need for the shirt or the bag, and I'm indifferent about the rest, but the place mat is at least an homage to the original promo item. Some people dig that swag - the cardboard stand-ups, the matches, the tickets, etc. I'm really glad they had a package that was pretty close to what I wanted.
In the end, even though I'd probably do a couple things different If I were designing the set, I'm pretty happy they're doing these things and want to support them. Hopefully the distro will be better this time.

This doesn't have the appeal of the Dead Man's Pop set, simply because this album was fine as it was, maybe too clean, but what can you do about that?
"Rounding out the collection are several unreleased tracks (Westerberg’s “Run For The Country” and “Learn How To Fail,” Stinson’s “Trouble On The Way”) along with a selection of outtakes (“Beer For Breakfast” and “I Don’t Know”) that debuted on the 1997 compilation, All For Nothing/Nothing For All."
I guess it would be nice to hear higher quality versions of those.

I am really enjoying the rough mix of "Alex Chilton" that was released - the vocal performances and lyrics are notably different. With that said, I would prefer new music but this sounds nice

Excited for this box in general, and will definitely be buying it. But I’m bummed out that Tommy’s “Make This Your Home” has been left off. FWIW, Jim Dickinson said that Tommy’s two tracks were the best of all the many unreleased things from the album. I’m not sure I’d go quite that far, but I do like them both a lot and they both definitely should’ve been on a set this comprehensive. Tommy was actually pretty dismissive of both of these tracks when that Dickinson quote was brought up to him in semi-recent years, saying he just couldn’t sing at that point. So it’s certainly possible he himself prevented the release of this track... although he was clearly okay with “Trouble on the Way” making it onto the box.

I'll buy.
That being said, it seems like most of the extra tracks have surfaced over the years.
The four new/old tunes that caught my eye...
"Awake Tonight, "Hey Shadow", "Even If It's Cheap" and "I can Help".

I hope they do Tim next. Great, great songs. Production not great. Give that to Matt Wallace for a remix and take my money in fall 2021. I'll empty my pockets.

I hope some of these mystery tunes are in the vein of “Nightclub Jitters.” Jazz on jazz on jazz baby.

“I Can Help” is presumably the Billy Swan hit of the mid 70s (also covered by Swan’s friend Elvis Presley). There’s also a rough stab at that tune on the drunken-session-with-Tom-Waits portion of CD 2 of Dead Man’s Pop box.
