Indeed. Where's the soon-to-be-released, rollicking "Sad Go Round?"

As grateful as I am to get anything new from Paul, at times I really wish he'd do some studio recording and not just basement stuff. Listening to the stuff in the car, the depth is missing on a lot of tunes.
I don't know what kind of sampling rate he's using to transfer the demos and basement recordings (and maybe it's because some of these are very old recordings and he and Juliana just did some overdubs) but it seems like I have to turn up the volume a lot more on these songs versus other stuff.
Not a big complaint, but there is a sonic 'fullness' that seems to be missing from some of these tunes. Again, I'm happy to hear anything new from the guy

Listening to the stuff in the car, the depth is missing on a lot of tunes. For a guy that hates complex drumming, he sure has the hi-hat cranked on those tunes. It definitely gives a sharp feeling with all those top-end frequencies.

he sure does love working that hi-hat! he is in love with that one pattern, it seems, but could it hurt to add in a cymbal crash now and then? I guess some songs are really lacking in the mid range. But that's how he likes to work, I suppose. Analog and low fi!
Again, who knows just how old some of these songs are? He really needs an archivist, since he has all this stuff on sitting around on tape, slowly degrading. someone has to digitally transfer that stuff from the ADAT tapes for safe keeping. It's crazy that he tapes over a lot of demos and songs.

Indeed. Where's the soon-to-be-released, rollicking "Sad Go Round?" Can't wait to hear it. It might be the other side/rebuttal of "Merry Go Round". Paul, we the fans, demand the I Don't Cares - Pt. 2 by end of year. Sincerely, Fan

Wild Stab is so frickin' loud! It's hotter than any other CD I've heard this year. I have to turn it down! But I agree the songs are kinda flat. I think Paul smashed them through a limiter and just destroyed the dynamics, hence why it's so loud.

Listening to this album again... it seemed like the beginning of a great run in the vein of Stereo-Folker but aside from the recent Dry Wood Garage singles (which were great to have, especially "Hawk", "Got it Made" and "September") there has been an end to new material releases after the album.
There was a video of sorts with Josh Freese that was posted somewhere but it looks like whatever professional/musical relationship Paul had with Juliana H is over. In that article written at the album release (Spin?), it looked like a follow-up from the I Don't Cares was imminent.
But, on this chilly night in December 2017, I am very grateful this album was released at the start of 2016. We had a dry spell of original material prior to this release and there are a ton of great tracks here... From "Back", "Wear Me out Loud", "Just a Phase", "Need the Guys", etc. there is a solid collection of songs all around.
Just a Paul and Mats fan reflecting on what a great winter surprise this release was a couple of years ago...

I should also caveat in the above messages that I haven't heard the singles for sale only on Dry Wood Garage. I'm just another broke millennial using Spotify...
