That's what I'm thinking as well. I would be just as excited to see this tour as I was for the Mats recent one. I'm hoping for at least a late night TV appearance. I have one wish if they do tour. No Mats songs please. I want to hear solo stuff, particularly from 49:00. Devil Raised a Good Boy for an encore? Everything Goes Wrong? I can get behind that. Let there be rock! I'd like no Mats songs as well. Since the Mats reunion, I have been saying that I think Paul should be able to play whatever the hell he wants on all future non-Mats tours. He gave us all something we never thought we'd get, so if he wants to retire Mats songs now, I'm completely on board for that. The fact that Freese is already home makes it even more likely that this wasn't a recording session, but a possible tour feel out session. & I'm excited about that! If it happened, I could see them working up 1 or 2 mats/pw tunes and maybe a Juliana/Blake Babies tune or 2, just to placate the fans and to fill out the set. That's pretty common with tours supporting projects like this. I'd be really happy to see it either way - haven't seen Juliana play since the late 90s probably. Not holding my breath for more music (recorded or live) but just seeing Paul out and about, making music with people, is pretty cool. |

(Drops mic, Boom.) *The studio version of it is 2 electrics and what, a minor drum percussion? |

I've had the album on in my car for a week straight now (stupid Amazon didn't ship my damn CD until a week after it was released... grrr). I really like it. I love the way that Paul & Juliana sound together; daffodil & sandpaper works! Re-worked Born for Me, King of America, Back, Dance to the Fight, Whole Lotta Nothin', & Hands Together are the favorites at the moment... I'm sure that'll change with time though! |

I can't stop playing it either. At least once a day either in car, walking the dog, or at work. Just gotta hear it. The only song I'm not too fond of is 1/2 2P. The melody is great it'e just the bizarre lyric. Bad visual. Not sure what posessed Paul to think those were good lyrics. It's funny and strange especially hearing Julianas backing vocal on it. I'd love to get her side of the story, what she thinks of the song.
But all that complaining aside I'm ready to say this stands up there with any of Paul's solo work. It's freaking damn good and interesting every time I put it on.

I hope they do some appearances but going back to the Peter Wolf interview, Paul did say he wished they had another album or CD to come out with. So maybe they're back together with Josh recording for another release???
Also, the song that is really grabbing me is 'Hands Together'. It may be the most poetic stuff coming from Paul. Especially the stuff about midnight.

Not to get too personal here, but many years ago when I was drinking heavily, I'd feel that. Stumbling home hammered but not ready to sleep and just sitting there in the kitchen, drinking water with only the stove light on in that fuzzy kind of gray, half darkness. It was peaceful and quiet in my place but there was sense of loneliness too that crept in. I know exactly what Paul means in those stanzas, even if it's not what he meant. He held the mirror up to me and I got a remembrance of my past flashing before me.
And to think that these songs were just sitting around---some for years! That's why it kills me when Paul said a few years back that he was erasing over stuff.

I'd love to see them on the road...But how is Paul gonna be able to glare at Juliana across the stage when he changes a chord and forgets a line and tries to make it look she's the one who fucked up? That's gotta be a little awkward for the off-stage relationship, no?
