and how the hell can Paulie make any money doing that? It doesn't matter! We all know musicians can't make money on album sales anymore! Touring is where the all the money's at these days. TOUR(!?)-ing baby!

I still dont understand the "JULY 49" thing, but oh well. Maybe because 49 is one cent short of 50 and June is once month short of July...I think I just figured it out right now as I typed this.
Saturday then? Get here already!

www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003828939More Replacements Reissues, Westerberg Download Due The Replacements Related Links: The Billboard Q&A: The Replacements' Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson July 17, 2008 , 3:00 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. As expected, Rhino will on Sept. 23 release expanded reissues of the Replacements' final four albums for Sire Records. Each album features a host of previously unreleased bonus tracks; the entire reissue catalog will also see digital release the same day. The Replacements' major-label debut, 1985's "Tim," features some of the band's most enduring material, including "Bastards of Young," "Kiss Me on the Buss," "Left of the Dial" and "Waitress in the Sky." The reissue includes alternate versions of the latter song as well as "Here Comes a Regular," a demo for "Kiss Me on the Bus" recorded with producer Tommy Ramone, and three outtakes from sessions tracked with Big Star's Alex Chilton, including both acoustic and electric versions of "Can't Hardly Wait." The new version of 1987's "Pleased To Meet Me" includes 11 bonus tracks, seven of which are seeing the light of day for the first time. Among them are demos of "Birthday Gal," "Bundle Up" and "Valentine," plus an alternate version of "Alex Chilton." The outtake "We Know the Night," a cover of Slade's "Gudbuy T' Jane" and a demo for "Talent Show" enrich 1989's "Don't Tell a Soul," while the Replacements' 1990 swan-song, "All Shook Down," sports eight previously unreleased demos for songs like "Torture," "Tiny Paper Plane" and "One Wink At a Time." In April, Rhino reissued the Replacements' first three albums and an EP for hometown Minneapolis label Twin Tone. They've since sold 22,000 copies combined in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In related news, frontman Paul Westerberg is planning to release a host of new music for 49 cents via his Web site on Saturday (July 19). The artist's last solo release was 2004's "Folker." edit: I see FreeRider beat me to it .

One thing I hope is that we get more options than just MP3s for this upcoming material. I'll listen to MP3s on my computer, but not on my stereo--I still prefer LPs and CDs.
NINs released a full CD quality record online recently so there's hope that Paul might do the same too.

Well, the link in the article I read directed me to here. I would assume (anyway) that MWT site is as close to official as it gets.
Kathy, is this album only available this site, or are other sites (ITUNES, etc) getting a hold of this? (not that I care to get it anywhere else, I'm just curious since it seems like this is MWT exclusive, or something.)

I found this "hidden" right here at this very site;
July 17, 2007
On June 49, (that's July 19 to you and me), Paul Westerberg will be releasing 49 minutes of music for just 49¢. Check back on Saturday, July 19 and you'll find a link to download the new tunes.
So Kathy, what time on Saturday? 12:01 am?

I'm not sure what time on Saturday, but I'll post the link as soon as I get it.
The download won't be hosted here, I'm just posting the link to the site where it's going to be available, and it's not anythign exclusive here, it's available to anyone with two bits and a computer. And once it's available, it's available, it's not a limited time thing.
I'm psyched, July is such a blah month, I mean, yes, it's summer and that's nice, but everyone's on vacation and things are blah and humid and unless you're interested in big budget summer action films (I'm not), entertainment is pretty sparse (exception: S2 of "Mad Men" on July 27, I cannot wait), so to have new PW music appear completely unexpectedly is just particularly great timing.
