This is so Prince. The date weirdness, the downloading, the exclusivity, the tunes dumping (in a good way).

Not sure how this download is going to work...I don't think I have ever put a mere 49 cents on my credit card.. Transaction costs are probably more than that.. CF

Is this just a teaser release? I mean, first you get the opportunity to download the tracks exclusively for a mere $ .49 on Saturday. Then let's say a month from now, a tangible release format [ CD or LP or 8-track ] becomes available with a few additional tracks you CAN'T get by downloading with cool liner notes or the likes, so the diehard caves and makes a duplicate purchase solely for the exclusive tracks not previously available. Depeche Mode and the Cure have done something similar in their marketing strategies and Live released their whole album for whatever the fans were willing to pay.
How's a musician benefit this way besides minimizing the number of hands in the cookie jar? The $ .49 thing has me perplexed from a revenue generating standpoint. Please, someone enlighten me how PDubya wins the most royalties issuing his new material this way.

I do think this is a precursor to a "real" release, which makes me think the $.49 price point is more of a publicity stunt than anything else. Paul's going to get more press on the 49 for .49 tag than anything he's done in years. I can't wait!

I assumed it was 49 cents per song total = $25 about wrong? It's 49 minutes of music for $0.49. No word yet on whether it's one 49 minute song, or 49 one minute songs but I'm guessing it splits the difference

judging by the limited publicity i'd have to say this is paul just giving his fans the music the easiest way he knows how, with the least amount of hassle, strings attached..no dealing with label requirements etc, i am guessing with the 60 plus songs out there he might just be preparing for another 5 albums in 2 years streak....looking forward to tomorrow!!

Maybe the "proper" album comes out after his 49th birthday.

I don't want to dampen anyone's anticipation prematurely but I also don't want anyone checking back here at 12:01 AM thinking the link will be live. Things are still being worked out as I type this, but there's a possibility that it may be June 49 + 2 days (Monday) as opposed to tomorrow due to, well, I believe the technical term for it is a "kerflooey". I'll keep you posted.

smells like he's testing the waters for an e-distribution of his next proper album. if all goes well & without a hitch, I fully expect the next "album" to be only distributed via the internet.
and while I agree the 49 cent price tag is just a gimmick/marketing thing, it IS important that we all pay to get these tracks, from a technology/logistics perspective. whether it was going to be 1 cent or 1 dollar, charging a nominal fee is an important part of the experiment.

*digs in pocket for two pennies* ahem, this might be an appropriate time to bring up this again:
33RD OF JULY (PAUL WESTERBERG) And it's already the 33rd of July Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Cryday night Twelve-thousand, five hundred Days you've been alive I'm leaving in early Septober And it's already the 33rd of July I met you again last night for the very first time Diamonds are forever I am for sometime I'm leaving in early Septober And it's already the 33rd of July On Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Cryday night Twelve-thousand, five hundred times I have lied I'm staying till early Septober And it's already the 33rd of July It's already It's already
THIRTY-FIRST OF JUNE (TONY HATCH) Tears roll down my cheeks, can't you see them glisten? I've tried to talk to you but you just won't listen And though I wait each day and hope and pray your love will come on soon, its as far away as the thirty-first of June You pass me by each day but you just don't know me I know there's something there but you never show me You're always on my mind and yet I find I'm reaching for the moon You're as far away as the thirty-first of June There is nothing in the world that I want more than to share my life with you 'cause I know I've never felt like this before and I only wish you knew I know the day may come when we're both together If we could only start, it would be forever Maybe these dreams of mine will break in time just like a toy balloon and I'll be waiting here till the thirty-first of June You're as far away as the thirty-first of June Yes, you're as far away as the thirty-first of June
