I'm guessing the quality can vary quite a bit from guitar to guitar, so I'm hoping I'll get a decent one. hmmm...now you tempt me to buy another one.... mine does not stay in tune very well.. CF

For $90, the 'stinky piece of sh!t' is worth it.

Okay. I just got mine today. It came in a box with Paul's face all over it.
For $99, it feels like a great and fun little guitar. The neck feels comfortable. The pickups sound pretty nice. Kind of middle-position Telecaster, but not twangy. Just a couple of buzzing fret issues that will probably be fixed by a setup. The action feels pretty good. The strings leave gray stuff on my fingers, but new strings aren't exactly a big deal. I am having a little trouble keeping it in tune. I'm too used to my Telecaster that stays in tune forever, no matter how hard I play it. If I end up playing the First Act more than a little, I might consider investing in some new tuners. But, honestly, it's a great little guitar for $99.

Yeah, the tuners are bit iffy. I thought the pickup might have been a bit hotter. But for $88 bucks not a bad neck and a nice solid body. Better than my first electric back in the 70's at less than half the price.

I think i'm gonna get one...I'll have to drive about an hour then get harrassed and potentially probed by some over zelous border guard so I hope I won't be disapointed when I get there.......anyone going to talk me out of it and save me the trip????or is it a half decent axe that might give my mex telecaster a run for the money???

This ad was pulled shortly after it was posted, but the guitar is now back up, at a more "reasonable" price: Autographed PW guitar

I think it would be a great idea for Paul to do a DVD--like they do at Homespun Tapes---and give guitar lessons on how to play some of his songs. It would be a way for Paul to make some extra cash and the fans would fully welcome learning how Paul plays some of those songs in those open tunings.
At Homespun tapes, they've got notables such as Doc Watson, John Sebastian, Jorma Kaukonen, blues-folk guitarist Chris Smither, Richie Havens, and K'eb Mo, etc....who have instructional DVD's. Levon Helm and jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette have instructional DVD's as well.
This is something Paul could do and it would give him a chance to preserve the guitar tricks and wisdom he's picked up over the years--all that unique knowledge of his playing style won't be lost.

The Come Feel Me Tremble DVD is probably as close as he's gonna get.

Ok, maybe this isn't such a great deal.

How great would a real DVD of Paul's guitar playing "tips & tricks" be? When I was about 12, my mother decided I needed to learn how to tie a tie. Pop wasn't around, so she took me to a friend of hers, a Korean doctor where she worked, and asked him to teach me. He promptly went to pieces and couldn't show me how he tied the tie that he clearly put on himself that morning. He kept trying to tell me how to do it in broken English, getting more and more frustrated. Finally, he grabbed a cigarette from his desk, lit it up, took a drag, and tied his tie flawlessly in about two seconds. Then he looked at me very seriously and said, "See. This is why man must smoke." For some reason, I envision a "tips and tricks" video from Paul as being very similar to that experience (with mumbles and cursing replacing the broken English and Korean accent).

just bought a PW580 for my brother for his b-day. I'll review it once I get down to his place over the summer and play it.

Anyone replace the tuners yet? I have one but haven't seen it yet (away on business), but I usally replace tuners right away on cheaper guitars. Just wandering about any mods I may need to make when I return.

Just wandering about any mods I may need to make when I return. So far the tuners are holding up surprising well. Haven't made any modifications yet, outside some slight bridge adjustments. The fretboard came extremely dry and I have had to lemon oil the crap out of it frequently. It's held up great through 2 gigs and gets questions from people....... ......Paul who?
