I've always wondered what it would sound like if Paul did his own version of Backlash.

Thanks for posting, I've never seen that before. Further proof of their being completely uninterested or oblivious to advancing their musical careers. As funny and entertaining as I think it is, as a Mats fan, that was just suicidal. They look like rejected extras from Deliverance. Typically, bands do these kind of interviews to generate a little buzz and sell some product. I must be a marketing dumbass, but please tell me who in the HELL, in 1987, 2006 or any year in-between, is going to watch this interview, as a first introduction to THE REPLACEMENTS, and go out to buy one of their albums?

Me. It's actually not THAT suicidal. Maybe by 1987 standards. Listen to Paul talk during the interview. He seems like he's selling the band a little bit. If I were disaffected with what I heard on the radio (I am) and I saw these dudes with no eyebrows and a cocky attitude for the first time, I'd probably go check out one of their records out of interest. If it had better exposure, I think this interview could've done a lot for them....three or four years later, not in 1987.

The thing that struck me most about that interview is that Chris Mars actually seems like he's having fun.

I always loved this interview (as well as another from around the same era, for PTMM). To me, this interview IS the Replacements. Its cocky and smart-alec. If I had never heard of this band, and saw this interview, I, like you, would be all over this band and want to check 'em out real fast. It makes me want to go out and buy one of their albums...and I own them all.

I have that eyebrowless interview as part of a DVD I got from someone here. I guarantee you, if I had seen it at fourteen, I wouldn't have bought their album. Of course I was still listening to Poison at fourteen, so what do I know.
Chris looks the worst sans eyebrows.

I would say it's a tie between Paul and Tommy as to who looks the worst. Eyebrowless Tommy saying "It's like they think we're stupid or something..." (paraphrasing) is classic.
Paul just looks bad ass. Slim looks like he crawled off the set of The Hills Have Eyes (and I mean that as a compliment). Chris is Chris. That interview is the first time I think I've heard his speaking voice.

Paul calls him Pappy at one point. So, I guess it's 'Chris is Pappy.'

pline, that show you posted on you tube is killer. here it is for those who haven't seen it yet. Thanks for posting those. I've always thought it was pretty brave and bold of him to go out there alone with a guitar and play more than just ballads.
