wow on the Born For Me..... No kidding. Yikes! I'm surprised Paul would be willing to open up that can of worms but it almost seemed like it was something her really wanted everyone to know. It's not like he just accidentally said it. Especially considering he was talking about the reason Hatfield wasn't at the interview in the first place. As in not wanting to be asked about their relationship. As if she doesn't get enough shit to begin with with this collaboration.
It seems like he kinda knew it needed to be addressed (the question of "Are you just working together or TOGETHER together?") because people were going to inevitably want to know and ask him about it. And rather than saying directly "We're a couple", by telling people that he wrote that song about her almost 20 years ago, that tells people how strong (and long-standing) their connection is. It's clear from the interview they are together, it's just never said directly. He seems happy, they sound great together, nothing but good news as far as I'm concerned.
I hate seeing him smoke though. I have my own bad habits, as we all do, but it's painful to see anyone smoking, it's so goddamn lethal.

Are the Replacements Done? Paul Westerberg's T-Shirts May Hold the Answer
After waiting 22-years for a Replacements reunion that seemed all but impossible, the band's relatively brief reformation may soon be over, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The band's long-awaited Back By Unpopular Demand reunion tour, which kicked off in April, is seemingly done and short-lived after the last European date on June 5 at the Primavera Sound festival. Last week, the band announced it would not be playing make-up dates for its canceled Pittsburgh (May 5) and Columbus, Ohio (May 6) show; and, according to the same source, the band has no plans to return to the recording studio after several recent attempts.
While the band's management and press rep did not return Billboard's request for comment, another source said he believed the new line-up is not formally breaking-up but rather just "taking a break" two years since reforming for 2013's Riot Fest shows. He called the break a "natural progression of things."
That may stand to reason given the current members' outside projects: Original Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson is playing the Newport Folk Festival on July 25 with a new band that includes Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi All-Stars), Frank Ferrer (Guns 'n Roses drummer) and Catherine Popper (Ryan Adams, Grace Potter and Jack White); while drummer Josh Freese, who's played with Devo, the Vandals, a Perfect Circle and Nine Inch Nails, among many others, is an in-demand session musician with a constantly packed calendar.
The Replacements still have a number of projects in the works including two vinyl box sets out this summer on Rhino Records consisting of the band's Twin\Tone and Sire output, a possible documentary, a biography and more. The band also performed several new songs on this latest tour including "Whole Foods Blues" and "Watering Can," which Paul performed solo.
In the band's statement announcing its cancelation of make-up shows, the group left open the possibility that they could again play together: "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused," the statement read, "hope we can come back in the future and make it up to you."
One possible clue to the band's state of affairs--and possibly their state of mind--may lie in the letters Paul Westerberg cryptically wore on his t-shirts for this tour. On a "Paul's Shirt" Facebook page dedicated to deciphering the sartorial message, several amateur etymologists claimed the shirts' yet-unfinished message will spell out the following: "I have always loved you now I must whore myself." As cynical and/or over-the-top sarcastic as Westerberg's sentiment may be, Replacement fans just don't want it to end.

Ross Shoemaker, known as Roscoe, was killed in a car accident in Broken Arrow, OK on May 20. Roscoe was the manager of the Bowery in Oklahoma City in November 1984 and he taped the show that became “The Shit Hits the Fans”.
“RIP Roscoe: Death of a Fan” was written by his friend Michael Corcoran, it's a really nice piece that celebrates Roscoe and his love of music.
If you can live a life like Ross Shoemaker did, so full of love and enthusiasm, you will have a great one. It will be a real life of ups and downs, deep sorrows and bursts of euphoria. A life that touches many.
“Alex Chilton” is a song about being a fan. I’m playing it for Roscoe now and it’s never sounded sadder. This is gonna take some time.

Great review from Philly sports guy Reuben Frank.
25. Speaking of The Replacements ... Saturday night at Festival Pier was one of those nights that makes you so proud to be from Philly. To see 7,000 people squeezing in there to see Superchunk and The Replacements on a gorgeous evening in the shadow of the Ben Franklin Bridge was the best. The vibe was so perfect. Everybody was supportive of the remarkable Superchunk, whose powerhouse drummer, Jon Wurster, is from Philly. And when the 'Mats hit the stage, it was just insanity. Hearing 7,000 people singing along to classics like Alex Chilton, Can’t Hardly Wait and I Will Dare was unforgettable. So many concerts have that inevitable faction of jerks who are there for no discernible reason. They’re disinterested, distracted, blabbering non-stop, staring at their cellphones, and depending on the venue, they can really drag down the atmosphere. This was totally different. Everybody was there to experience the ragged brilliance of the 'Mats. This was just one big sweaty heaping pile of Philly music fans bouncing up and down and digging one of the greatest bands ever. It was glorious.

It's probably been said before, but it is amazing to be around a few thousand Mats fans singing along, instead of a few hundred. I've seen them 4 times on this reunion. One indoors(Wash), one at a festival(Boston), one on a tennis court(NYC) and one on a fake beach(Phil). Who would have thought?
Forest Hills was my favorite, hands down. I loved everything about it. Also saw Riot Fest Denver, Boston Calling, The Sinclair and Philly, but there was just something about FH that sticks with me.

Yeah, we had a couple of people in our panel of folks rating songs that were a little biased towards the early albums. Which is fine, of course, but it does change the character of a list like this. Seems like many fans can either be categorized as either "Tim and earlier" people or "Let It Be and later" people. I can cop to being the cause of "The Ledge" being so low on the list, and the only time I allowed my personal feelings to affect a song's placement. If only they hadn't done the falling effect on the vocal at the end... As not a big fan of this song, I did enjoy hearing it at the Cambridge show, it's never going to be a song I'm going to be hoping for, but they really do kick ass on it live.

Here at WYEP-FM in Pittsburgh, we were excited for the Replacements show scheduled for yesterday (unfortunately postponed), so we decided to rank all officially-released songs by the band. I know it's a very subjective undertaking, but it was a lot of fun to discuss, argue, and write about. I was wondering what you folks think of our list: wyep.org/replacementsAmazing level of effort! Sorry that you guys have to wait for your show in Pittsburgh. All of us would have different rankings; the few that stuck out on first glance for me are: 145. "The Ledge" It's never been a favorite of mine but it seems from the reaction it gets live that a lot of people really like it. 83. "Seen Your Video". #NOPE #TOP25 60. "Nobody" + 54. "Valentine" No no no no no no no. No! #TOP25 38. "If Only You Were Lonely". #TOP25 (hmm my top 25 is gonna be crowded) 33. "Nowhere Is My Home" 33 might be an OK placement until I see that means Merry Go Round is higher. Merry Go Round would be at least #100 if not higher for me. 13. "Little Mascara" I'm coming out of the closet as a "Little Mascara" denier. Wouldn't make my top 50.

Per the Promowest Facebook page. Posting this from my hotel in Pittsburgh that I've been in for two days. Got a no-refund hotel for Columbus too. Fuck. Damn, sorry to hear that. I feel so bad for everyone who traveled for the shows.

here's the post from FB:
The good news is that Paul is getting better, but the bad news is that he's still too under the weather to pull off tomorrow's show in Columbus. So, it's with heavy consideration and regret that we need to postpone that show as well. He's resting up for the DC and Philly shows this weekend and everybody's looking forward to getting back out there. Sitting around in hotel rooms is boring.
Pittsburgh and Columbus - we are truly sorry and are working overtime to figure out how and when we can come back and make this all up to you. Hold on to your tickets in the meantime, and you'll be able to use them then.
If you can make it to Philadelphia this Saturday, there are still some tickets left for our show at Festival Pier.
Regretfully Yours, The Replacements

Travel insurance would cover the hotel at least, I'm pretty sure. Did you happen to get it? No travel insurance when you Priceline a hotel. Have tickets for Philly outdoor show for Saturday. Heard the weather is going to be like a monsoon. I just checked the weather and it says 87 and sunny Saturday in Philly....
