Interesting that Chris Mars will do a single . . . but declined to be part of the Mats' single. Plus: Frank Black & The Suicide Commandos?!?!?!! This one has me more than intrigued!

Wow. Lucinda?! I can't wait to hear it!!!!! Kinda depressing that I can't possibly buy an album, but I hope the songs will be made available online?

Yes, the most recent couple of articles said that they'd be available for digital download.

Chris was the first to release a single to help Slim-When I Fall Down was released early in the year with the proceeds going to the Dunlops. Chris has a very low-key, but full life. He has been very very kind, and I can not have people thinking he is unwilling to help. For months I was wondering if any of Slim's former bandmates BESIDES Chris was going to do anything to help him out. Please don't dis Chris when you don't know what the story is.

Chris has been a amazing. actually they all really ran to Slim's side. if you read Slim's page, they've all visited, and i think at this point in each of their respective lives they truly appreciate what each brought to the mix. Paul's sister talking about Paul and slim holding hands was amazing!. Chrissie Dunlap has been quick to defend Chris, as it's standard for people to wonder why he wouldn't join in, but at this point, it's my view he's put the mat's to bed, and see's not up side to joining in...theirs allot of baggage there, and when things are good between them all, i think he see's it as a ship letting stay "sailed". he truly did take beating, unfairly from Paul and Tommy when he left the band...

Yeah, the only way to explain the Chris situation is that he has no desire to re-join "The Replacements" (and/or Paul/Tommy specifically) -- but he's more than willing to help Slim in any way he can. Given that he makes upwards of $20-30K per painting, his donation of artwork for this project is probably worth more than any other artists' contribution.

And I wasn't complaining that Chris wasn't part of the Mats' single. I was just pointing out that it was interesting to me -- he's making music, but he isn't interested in any Replacements reunion.

Okay. Well, I know Chris is seemingly always painting...and he's got his reasons to not want to be part of a Replacements reunion; that was then, this is now maybe? i know I wouldn't want to go back and get back together with the woman I used to play with for anything! I went through that already, and being her little lead player wasn't all it was cracked up to be. SHE, meanwhile, has stayed in the same rut, plays the exact same songs, and still wears the crazy catwoman suits. All I know is I have progressed, and gone on to other things, and what was fun and wild in those heavy drinking days doesn't appeal to me anymore. SHE has even cut an album of those same old songs; I wouldn't be surprised if she used old lead tracks I recorded with her all those years ago. I don't want any of that stuff now, and I would be endangering my sobriety if I put myself back in that situation now. That's just me, and how I was about the big HARDCORE NORFOLK event the other year. My ex went because he'd been in so many bands back then, but I was not told about it til it was over(because of the oh-so-important ex). At first I was mad I missed the movie and bands and seeing the old crowd again, but when I saw the coverage of the thing, the photos, etc., I was GLAD I didn't go. Yes, SHE was there and performed, and tried to sell her pitiful album. (I'll bet she uses them as end tables, coffee tables, plates, frisbees, etc.) I could never go back to being her little goth underling; I have a whole different life now. Maybe that's all it is with Chris. If they reunite, they do, and if they don't, they don't. Can't get Bob back anyway...: ( He played with so much heart. On Go there's one note that cries out so achingly it gets me every time...No dis to Slim, but the original line-up was the "'Mats" to me.

For some of us, going back to something we did in the past just doesn't make sense. I totally understand that. Chris has given his support to Slim in his own way. Paul and Tommy are doing theirs. It's all good.

Sometimes I wonder if Chris hasn't participated in the very few "Replacements reunions" just because he hasn't really played the drums in a long time...

Really surprised that Earle is taking part in this project. Was listening to his XM radio show the other day and he introed the Huskers' "Don't Want to Know if You Are Lonely" by (a) saying that 'Candy Apple Grey' was one of his favorite, FAVORITE records and (b) saying "I mean, f--- the Replacements anyway."

Heh, maybe being a crank a la PW? A playful jab at his kid's taste in covers? I recall that Paul said somewhere he loves Earle, in a way I don't think he outright expresses admiration that often.

In response about Chris playing drums. Maybe he tried and just sucked at it. Who knows?

First, Chris still plays drums. See his released song for slim, and has recorded 'radio word hit' as well. As far as Steve Esrle I've heard him say he like Paul and the mats a lot, he just wishes Paul would finish a song. Most likely a reference to the free releases etc.

Really can't wait to hear this.I wonder if the Replacements release will be the first or the last of the releases to be auctioned off. They will be available for download after the 45's are auctioned off I would think.Have they announced what songs all the artists are doing? Steve Earle doing Times Like This would be pretty sweet.Maybe they'll make a video for it and it will be a hit.I wonder if the downloads will be grouped into one album or if we'll have to look up each release to download them.It would be cool to have videos for all of these songs or at least a little promo that talks about the project with interviews and some info about who Slim is.

Maybe it's simply that Chris has no desire to return to an abusive relationship.
