no setlist from me. suffice it to say that iou kicked my ass from here to new hampshire, and that is all you need to know about last night's show - song wise.
i THINK the get up he had on was part of his halloween costume, but i could be wrong about that.
and to echo all the light/darksiders, the first 20 minutes or so last night had me worried that he was just going to go through the motions... but then it abruptly changed and smoked friday's show.
hope you 3-showers get to hear gun shy tonight.

Ok , just for anyone who has never been inside , if you're wondering about Sunday nite ..... cuz there are tickets available ..... Pantages is tiny .... I admit , I had never been inside until tonite . It's rarely used for this kinda show .... but w/ First Ave now out of commission (sigh , 15 years of going to shows , such memories ) .. oops , sorry ... anyways , Pantages is tiny , lots of great sight lines , we were in row S tonite , usually , in the State or Orpheum here, I'd be scared , but in this place , we were like so close , the balcony is nice too . Long story short , any seat inside this place you'll be blown away , it only seats like 1300 . it's a wonderful little theater. my first time in there, too, last night. cool place. oh, and concertgoers? it is a rock show, so it's ok to stand.

The only one seemingly closest to my age group was a kid sitting up front with his dad or something. Also saw a teacher from my old high school. Creepy... hold on, are you calling me old? *shakes rake at teenagers on sidewalk*

didn't folk star end with dylan's "only a hobo?" or did he play that separate? also the new one, when he waved the band off, the one with the months spelled out (N-O-V-E-M-B-E-R, etc) i liked that one. oh, and folk star? it fvckin smoked.

voice Paul's voice sounded great. I wonder what Clams Casino who always complained about Paul's solo singing voice would think, because it sure seems PW does indeed need a band behind him to belt these out right. And at least where I was you could hear every syllable. He's really singing loud and clear. i knew someone else would be thinking the same thing i was. his voice sounded really strong. clams would be pleased.

I reiterate. I hate you all. The five most evil words in the English language - "Man, you shoulda been there..." And yes, "shoulda" is one word. faith, i looked for you; hoping you would find your way in. i was holding a place to stand for you...

No gary louris and no jeff tweedy? what's up with golden smog. Did marc perlman play? How cool would it be if paul joined the smog. perlman played the whole set. paul played for one song.

Gear Daddies finished things off nicely, although Martin continues to attract a disturbingly frattish crowd. there it is. that's the reason i left last night during their set, and that is the reason i have never stayed through any of their shows.

can't compute can't compute can't compute i was holding down the opposite rear corner rail w/my fair haired wife dammit! this is getting pathetic. we are all adults. we need to c-o-o-r-d-i-n-a-t-e better... we'll make this work for the pantages show.

i didn't see any mwt-ers or 40 watters, and i looked, but it is hard when you don't really know what most people look like, and you only know them by names like "monkey"... anyway, my friends & i didn't move from the back right corner railing area all night, so if you walked by & saw someone in a black hooded sweatshirt, and baby blue chuck taylors with a guy who looks like my brother (but isn't), and his short, dark haired wife, that was me!
paul's short set was cool. he held up a tiny scrap of paper, and said, "this is my setlist. i couldn't find a postage stamp." i was real happy to hear achin' to be. he made the obligatory tommy comment at the end of swinging party. good stuff. all told, his set just made me excited for the pantages shows.
soul asylum. soul asylum. i was looking forward to their show, and i was only mildly disappointed. they oughta ditch the keys player. he honestly doesn't add anything, and in fact takes away from the sound of a tight rock unit. anyway, i vowed never to see them live after the midway park show some years ago, but i'm glad i did see them last night. karl's comments at the end were really, really cool.
"even if i didn't know me, i'd still be at this show."
here's the funny part. i had COMPLETELY forgotten bob mould was on the bill. well, that buff motherf*cker walked onstage, plugged in his blue strat, and just instantly pinned you to the back wall. no acoustic, no bullshit. it was a chartered trip through sugar, husker du, and solo bob straight through to a celebrated summer. he always has been a rather intense performer, but last night, f*ck! the guy's voice sounds like a howitzer. i just about shit myself when grant came out.
"see, if bob & i can play together, we can get bush out of office..."
golden smog was excellent; although i would have liked to see some other alumni onstage for at least a song or two. oh well. when paul barked out dead roses, i knew we were in for a treat. too bad he only hung around for that one song, but it was a very, very good song. they played some kinks, do anything you wanna do with the aforementioned steve wynn (??) smoked, etc., etc. does anyone know what was that last song they played?
oh, and i left during the first gear daddies song. ugh.
p.s. who was the golden smog drummer? she was awesome. also, i [heart] jesse greene.
