I'm getting remarried this May and plan on playing some Replacements/Westerberg songs at the reception. What are YOUR suggestions as to which songs I should choose? I need songs to dance to, both fast and slow. I have my own list, but am curious as to what others might suggest.
After the New Orleans show, I told Paul about playing his songs at the reception. He laughed, rasped/garbled something to me, and laughed again. I think he said something about getting married twice, but I didn't want to hold the line up too long asking him to repeat himself.
And right off the bat....no suggestions of "Nobody" or "Don't Get Married"....those are waaayyy to obvious.

Sheesh...I'm scratching my head trying to think of a "positive" Paul love song...'sides "Born for Me."
Which is open to interpretation anyway...
Some friends of mine just went with industrial/goth metal for their reception. Might be easier.

Born For Me is the best pick. I say if you're looking for dancing songs can't go wrong with Kiss Me On The Bus. Waitress in the Sky always gets me dancing but I don't know if the lyrics would necessarily go over the best. And I Will Dare is definitely a booty shaker.
But I agree there is not a lot you can do if looking for positive love song ballads

Something meets boy, something meets girl...
you can't go wrong with "Androgynous."

You first dance should be a choreographed jig to "Waiting for Somebody"

ha! and if you go this route, you totally better invite us all. I'm still waiting for my invite from Date2Church to his wedding... which reminds me, Date to Church might be a good song to use as well.

Date to Church is a GREAT choice. Right at the start of the reception. I think it would get a party moving.
Even though lyrically it's inappropriate, I always thought Swingin' Party would be a good slow dancer.

sure, but we'll have to shower at the Y or something. You know it's bad when the Y sounds like a good idea.

In the late-80's, I supplemented my record store income by DJ'ing at a dance club. Unfortunately, the majority of the evening I had to endure Bobby Brown, Madonna, and plenty of one-hit dance stars. Thanks to New Order and the Cure, a couple of times a night I was able to steer things towards my kind of stuff. It was still pretty safe (REM, Hoodoo Gurus) but I also regularly got in Kiss Me On the Bus, Hold My Life, I Will Dare, Can't Hardly Wait, and I'll Be You. Bus went over the best, but none of them ever cleared the dance floor. I absolutely hated slow song sets, so I would routinely throw in Here Comes a Regular instead of the usual Whitney Houston power ballad.

We used "Born for Me" as the wedding party dance and made sure the DJ played "I'll Be You" during the reception. If I did it over again I'd think about adding "I Will Dare," "Hot Un," and maybe end the night with a singalong to "Can't Hardly Wait." Maybe "Seein' Her" and/or "Stain Yer Blood" as well?

Thanks for all the suggestions....Date To Church is one I hadn't thought of. It's got a good beat and fits the event. Waitress in the Sky is out...my future mother in law is a REAL waitress in the sky and I'm not going to chance losing free airfare by pissing her off!
Here's what I have planned so far;
During the early background music stage of the reception: Love Untold and Whatever Makes You Happy
For the dancing: My Daydream, Hot Un (her fave), Seein Her, Dyslexic Heart and Making Me Go
For when we leave: Can't Hardly Wait

I got married shortly after DTAS came out so Darlin' One made it's way into my reception "set list". If you'd like to be tacky, you could try $100.00 groom.
