well, as I posted last month or so, this excerpt explains how Paul feels: an old SPIN interview with him - Folker (2004): “Every one of these records makes me think of someone. I thought ‘Jingle’ was kinda good. I can’t remember any of the other songs because they’re s**t. I’ve learned that there’s a reason you don’t remember the ones you’ve forgotten.” www.spin.com/2016/03/paul-westerberg-i-dont-cares-replacements-interview/Oh jeez. I take about 1/3 of what comes out of Paul Westerberg’s mouth in interviews as being anything more than what he feels like saying at a given time.😂 He ain’t giving anyone everything. If he doesn’t like something cool! But anyone else’s opinion isn’t qwrong because Paul shit on it. I’m guessing my ideal set list from Westerberg would not align with his. I’m not having the artist’s opinion of their former work determine my appreciation one way or the other. It’s mine once I hear it.

oh, of course Paul says contradictory shit! I'm not saying he's right/wrong in how he feels about his work or that you or any other fan is wrong. I mean, once an artist throws his stuff out there, he or she can't control how people respond to it. There's no right or wrong. I mean, Pete Townshend used to wonder why the hell throw away tunes like "Boris the Spider" and "Magic Bus" were fan faves.
That quote though is just a possible explanation for why Paul has disdain for some songs or outtakes. Hell, there are some Throwing Muses studio demo/practice songs, some Pete Townshend demos I like better than the studio version because it was unpolished, loud, and raw! Studio version? Mehhh, it was ok, but I don't care what Kristen Hersh or Townshend thinks about which version was better, lol...

Thinking Jingle was the good one on Folker is pretty wild.

He also told us that "Folker" was going to be "the bomb". 🤔 And some years later admitted he knew it was not going to be a good seller, and then confirmed by Michael Bland. I guess he had to hype up sales or something.
Who knows, maybe he was just fulfilling a CD contractual obligation to the label and he just threw some stuff on there because he had nothing else at the time?

I’m just about losing patience with this Westerberg character!

Half of it is great, I think. I think it’s also the record that made him say it was impossible to write great rockers without a band. I suppose that explains the title.

I’m just about losing patience with this Westerberg character! Lol I have to admit Folker is my favorite of his solo records. “My Dad,” “What About Mine?” and “23 Years Ago” are, I think, three of the most moving songs in his oeuvre. “Breath Some New Life” has that incredible solo towards the end. “$100 Groom” has such a swagger. There’s a ramshackle held-together-by-Scotch-tape vibe to it that I love. Pound for pound it’s up there. I was going to say there are some real duds, like “Gun Shy,” but I’m revisiting it now and it rocks.

Anyone still listening to the “Let It Bleed” Tim remix? Gotta admit I still prefer, by a mile, the original Erdelyi mix. Honestly, I can’t stand the Stasium mix.

When I am listening on CD/Streaming or I put together a playlist on my own I go with Let It Bleed and Dead Man's Pop mixes. Especially on a playlist, sonically they sound good together. When I listen to the vinyl I will usually go with the original mixes first.

I listen to both and am glad to have both versions presented from this box. The remastered original mix on this set has to my ears the preferred Swinging Party and Here Comes a Regular with HCAR being by far better. I go back and forth on which version of Kiss Me on the Bus and Waitress in the Sky I like better. Generally I like listening to the Stasium mix and more often notice and appreciate the separation and presence in it over the compressed treble reverb wash of the original mix. It always struck me odd how much better Let it Be sounded when playing Tim after it. Now Tim sounds on par or a step up.

I'm with bside here, "Let It Bleed" is my go to, though I still keep both in my iTunes, and on my Mats playlist on both my phone and iPad. I just have the original mix way further down on the list, past all of the regular releases and live records, though I will give it a spin now and then too!

I may never listen to the original mixes again. I'm glad they're still out there for those that prefer them, and I'm not in favor of erasing history, but I've heard them enough and don't think they're nearly as good as the remixes.

I haven't listened to the original Erdelyi mix in quite awhile. For me, the Stasium remix is the standard bearer. For years, I have complained about the original mix (as have Westerberg and Stinson) and have looked forward to a new remix, which did not disappoint. In my car iPod and my living room music server, I do not have the original loaded anymore, only the Let It Bleed mix.
And I'll go out on a limb and state that if the new mix was the one released in 1985, "Bastards of Young" would have gotten some airplay on mainstream radio, leading to more album sales.
