I like it, it's a sweet little song, sticks in my head (in a good way). A whole album of this would be too much but this works just fine. I agree, it's not a bad song at all. I just hope there is more lyrical depth to the album as well. Between the Mats' new album getting scrapped and Paul apparently constantly recording and throwing away stuff in the basement for the last 5 years, I'm still holding out hope that it will all see the light of day eventually. It's just tough to gauge what's really going on... we need more songs! I'm really excited that he's working with Juliana Hatfield. I've been on a Lemonheads kick for the last few months.

Sounds good to me. Not everything has to been serious and heavy, especially when you're getting into the years, believe me. Keeping it hoping and happy? No problem! :-)

Let's not forget the fun and funny side of Westerberg, which is huge. For some of us oldsters, that was the first side of him we heard and saw.

Looks like Westy can split his fan base in half and not care about it whatsoever--like a Neil Young. And yeah, 1/22 P is not a serious song but kind of a fun, bouncy song, with subversive lyrics to contrast the light and breezy pop melody.
I'd have to think this tune was done for fun...it has PW's fingerprints all over it. As for the rest of the tunes with Julianna? Seems more like them having fun in the studio collaborating and I don't see them putting this stuff out on CD; hence the upload to the myspace page. The REAL stuff, the songs they care about the most, would be for a CD release, don't you think? And if it isn't, well, I guess Paul has headed for the ditch, like Neil Young!

It's really hard to say what the record will be like. I prefer the darker, deeper stuff myself, but I find this pretty palatable and enjoyable. Juliana isn't everyone's cup of tea so I can understand why some people might groan at the collaboration, but as a big fan of hers since the Blake Babies days, I'd put her up there with Joan Jett and Emmylou among my favorite women in music. (Can you imagine a whole Paul-Joan record?) I keep thinking of The Both, which is Ted Leo and Aimee Mann. It's really a great record. If Paul & Juliana pull off something along those lines but in their own way I'd be pretty happy. Juliana's stuff in general isn't usually as dark as Paul's, so I'd be surprised to get something really dark and gloomy (or rocking), but who knows. Even if it doesn't live up to what I think it could be, I'm happy that he's back to making music so quickly after the `mats run, that it involves someone else (ie, not just a bored, perpetually-self-doubting dude in his basement) and that it appears that it will see the light of day at some point soon.

Cute.
Song sounds like it should be used on a sitcom like Big Bang Theory or similar.
Another throwaway. Oh well.

They're practically singing the alphabet. Nice tune, but lyrically a joke.

I think some people are missing the "parody" aspect of this song also. This is clearly a take off on male-female duets that always say things like "when I look in your eyes, I see stars" or stuff like that. It's taking the dynamic inherent in these songs and poking fun at it. It's an extremely clever tune - it's not really a throwaway........or it is and it isn't if you know what I mean. Also will sound great in the setlist after "Making Me Go"

Is Spotify the only place to listen to this? There's a Nimbit link to buy it for $.99 I keep thinking about how this was released on Halloween day, with Juliana and Paul in their matchy matchy costumes, and some people think it's a treat but I wonder if it's a trick.

(Can you imagine a whole Paul-Joan record?) You're right; I've tried to like Juliana but it just doesn't grab me, but maybe I haven't given her stuff a fair shot. Regardless, this collaboration seems interesting and has energized Westy to do something than just sit and brood in his basement and record over his tapes and not let anyone hear any of it. Is it what Mats fans want? Or were expecting? No....but for him, I guess it's a good move. We'll have to give him the freedom to do what he wants. Maybe we'll dig it, maybe not. And maybe he'll be energized to finish up whatever he was working on with Tommy. Or not. Well, I guess we'll find out how it goes! As I said, I gotta think the stuff they posted to their myspace page was just fun studio stuff. I don't think it's indicative of what Wild Stab will be, but we shall see. Agreed. It's much better for him to be active and working with OTHERS and bouncing ideas off other folks than to be isolated for too long.

I wonder if you're right. He recently produced an album for her. Kind of believable that they would release something that the press would latch onto (remember "Poke Me in My Cage"?) and use it as publicity for what's for Hatfield's forthcoming release. Who knows, though.

hey, look at it this way, if Paul winds up being the next Steve Earle when it comes to teaming up with love interests, it might not be an altogether bad thing
