Just watched the Ramones documentry "End of the Century". There is a part in the middle about Cities that spawned punk bands after the Ramones played. The Replacements are mentioned......
Great Documentry by the way!!! A MUST see for any music fan..

from USA Today Pop Question: Which band would you like to reunite? Until a Replacements reunion happens, I'll just have to scream and weep at Paul Westerberg's solo shows.

flippin' thru the channels tonite, i stumbled upon VH-1's "Ultimate Albums", featuring Green Day. they had short clips of Paul talking about Green Day and about being losing credibility as an indie band once you're signed with a major label.
They also talked to Bob Mould and Elvis Costello, both of whom provided comments about Green Day. Bob also talked about how they just couldn't get enough airplay, no matter how the re-mixed the songs. some other person, who was doing commentary, mentioned that the Mats and Husker Du were basically pissed upon once they went to a major label.

Anthony Roman of the group Radio 4, in "Let Fury Have the Hour: The Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer": " ... he came out through the back door. He had a leather jacket on, the Strummer quiff was in full effect, and he was carrying the infamous Telecaster guitar in his hand with no case. Joe spotted us and suddenly approached us. We were completely stunned. We nervously managed to remark how the Telecaster in his hand was the same one from the 'Rock the Casbah' video with the Ignore Alien Orders sticker placed among scores of other decals, scratches and divots. "He asked us if we wanted to play the guitar. Now we're playing Joe Strummer's Telecaster as he begins teaching us the intro chords to 'Clampdown' while he tried to remember the mumbled spoken word part that kicks off the song. He told us that the spoken word part was about a dream that Mick Jones had regarding a helicopter crashing into the studio where the Clas were recording London Calling. After this we discussed reggae, Latin music, the Replacements (he wasn't a fan) and he even grabbed my friend a little closer when a New York City cab zoomed a little too close to him." circa 88 let it be known that pw wasn't very fond of the clash, either... michaelb

Pop Question: Which band would you like to reunite? Guided By Voices. I know, it's only been 3 months. I'd like them to go for the shortest breakup/retirement in rock history.

Akin's story starts in the backstreets of Hamburg, and it lifts off a few scenes in, when two strangers converge at a mental health center. Sibel (Sibel Kekilli), in her very early twenties, is the manic, sexual child of a conservative Turkish immigrant family who will do anything to get out from under her father's roof, including tentative attempts at suicide. Inside, she meets, cajoles, coerces the over-forty Cahit (Birol Unel) who's just crashed his car head-on into a wall. Cahit's a lonely, long-in-the-bottle German-born Turk with a morosely handsome/beaten Paul Westerberg-meets-Michael Hutchence face, whose job, in an example of Akin's sly joking, is to clean up after-hours at a club called "The Factory." (Once a gastarbeiter, always a guest worker, du weiss?) - from a review of the movie "Head-On" which opens Friday at the Music Box in Chicago www.newcitychicago.com/chicago/4251.htmlI wonder if Paul Westerberg ever did meet Michael Hutchence? Anyway, here's the separated at birth/Conan-style if-they-had-a-baby equation: PLUS EQUALS

Odd corners of MPLS radio:
The new public radio alt-rock station The Current (for lack of better description) inherited a morning show (called "The Morning Show") that used to play on the public radio classical station. Very folky. So today folksinger Ann Reed is subbing for one of the two regular hosts (the other is half of Garrison Keillor's sound effects team). They just played "Cruella de Ville"--first time I've ever heard Mats on that show (and they played "Taxman" earlier too).
After several years of using 8-second snippets of "I Will Dare" as bumper music, the Minnesota Twins radio broadcast has gone Mats-insane this season. In just the first three games, they've used "Merry Go Round," "Can't Hardly Wait," and "Seen Your Video," and probably more too ... we got the cable channel now so I haven't been listening as much.

Good call Cellar - I heard it too. I've requested they play Mr. Rabbit thinking it would be a good fit, haven't heard it yet though.

When I got home my 14 year son explains to me that Green Day was on MTV's TRL today, so he was watching as he likes them. Apparently they have a wall of fame or something to that effect and when guests are on they are asked to leave a handprint in wet cement. Following me?
Anyway, they are asking Billie Jo to do this right before they break for a commercial, and as he reaches for the wet cement he flips the bird and presses it in while saying "this one's for you Paul". My son got off on it, knowing PW's habit of flipping the bird and knowing that Green Day likes to name drop the mats/PW. In my son's view, he's in on the inside joke, and who knows, maybe he was?

did this actually happen? Are you questioning my son's integrity? ;D Fearful of being duped? I'm only repeating what he told me when I walked in the door, as really, I don't watch TRL!
