I won't. Yet. But given the passage of time and the hit and miss quality of his output this century, the thought crosses my mind once in a while: "Do I still care what Paul's up to?"
I'm still a loyalist -- heck, the message board and news site are still bookmarked -- but I can't proselytize anymore, and I'm not sure I'll be there until the last dog dies ... I'm wishing and hoping that his next record will knock me out and I'll be back in the camp body and soul, but it's been a long dormancy, and now I wonder ...

I won't hesitate a bit. I'm eager for a new one!

Sure I'll buy it. But will I like it? That's the real question.

No hesitation. He is one of a declining number of artists I'd buy without hearing first.

I'll be first in line. PW has yet to let me down, and his last few solo records have all been top-notch - in my opinion, anyway...

No hesitation. He is one of a declining number of artists I'd buy without hearing first. Same here. Even his "lesser" albums usually have something great that justifies the purchase.

"Hit and miss"? I've loved everything since his Mono/Stereo comeback.

I'm one of those who was deeply disappointed in Folker... but that said, i'll buy his next album, no question about it. And if it's an album with PW and OTHER MUSICIANS playing on it, I'll be the first in line!

I gave up on solo PW after Suicane. I think there's some great stuff on the major label cds but a lot of it seemed to forced, produced and worried over, he didn't seem to be having any fun. So I didn't buy Mono on release. Then when Mono/Stereo came out I figured "2 cds? Same price as one? I'll take a shot." I've been back ever since, no disappointment. I even like Deadman Shake. No hesitation.

I'm all in. I've enjoyed everything he's done. Sure, some are better than others, but even Trumpet Clip is better than 95% of music out there today.

After seeing the error of my ways on 'eventually' and 'suicaine', i now assume that i will eventually treasure whatever he puts out even if i am not crazy about it at first.
i don't go into it thinking i'm going to hear my next favorite album but soon it will be irreplaceable.
i cannot wait for whatever is next.

I'll buy it no questions asked.
What's the dude been up to these days anyway? It'll be almost 3 years since he was on the road last. Wow - time sure has a way of flyin'.

I'll buy it. Twice, just to run up the numbers.

There are fans that don't like "Folker"? Not sure I understand that.

I went to the Jim Walsh *All Over But The Shouting* book signing at Stanford in January and I asked him if he thought we'd hear anything else from Paul. He answered with no hesitation by telling me that Paul is working on an album right now with Kevin Bowe. My fingers are crossed that this is true and that we'll hear more about it soon.

There are fans that don't like "Folker"? Not sure I understand that. Yep. Love S/M, thought CFMT was a fantastic collection of B-Sides from that era, dig DMS, even like the kiddo soundtrack a lot. But Folker... ...at least it has Folk Star & Gun Shy.

Same here... Folker just doesn't do it for me. I keep giving it a try every few months hoping that it'll suddenly sound like the masterpiece some people think it is, but that hasn't happened for me yet.
The handful of songs I like most on the album (like My Dad, Lookin' Up In Heaven, As Far As I Know, Gun Shy, Folk Star) are decent/listenable/good in their own way, but ultimately still disappointing. They could just have been done so much better (and in the case of AFAIK, we found out on the Folker tour that it IS so much better when played with a band).
Paul's DIY approach worked well (often exceptionally well) on S/M, DMS and CFMT... but I think the songs on Folker needed some musical refinement (i.e. backing musicians - especially a drummer).

I suspect that some albums are gonna be loved by the masses and some will receive luke warm receptions. It's the inevitable ups and downs of a career, I suppose. Neil YOung talked about that himself in an interview and admitted that he released albums that he knew weren't commercially viable. But he says to take the entire catalog into view, that he sees each album as a snapshot of his life. His unsuccessful albums were a result of his unhappiness with Geffen records and dealing with the disabilities of his son.
But there's no hesitation on my part. Paul is one of the few artists that I eagerly await for the next release; I'm interested in what's next, what did he come up with now? Are there songs on there that will move me and make my skin tingle?
