Anyone got a suggestion for a solid wood acoustic in the 500-800 dollar range. I'm looking for a dreadnaught. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Check out these Carvins www.carvinguitars.com/cobalts/Good sound for the $$$$$

Hey GtrPlyr, good to see you on the board....and I don't think you're biased. I've played both Martin and Taylor acoustics, side by side, and Martin has a nicer and richer tone from what I hear. So Martin gets the edge! Must be something about the wood they use....
Has anyone heard of Seagull acoustic guitars or has anyone played them? Friend of my brother's bought one for his kid....says it's a nice guitar and much cheaper than the Taylors and Martins. Maybe that's worth looking into as well?

1962 Gibson Melody Maker (heavily bastardized with new tuners/ pickups/ pickguard) 1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard (wine red) 1994-95 Fender Telecaster (foto-flame, made in Japan) Jay Turser Hawk 12 string electric (early one that looks similar to a Rick) 1964 Silvertone (cant remember model number, vaguely shaped like a Mustang or Jaguar) Ovation Celebrity acoustic

Yeah, they're hand made Canadian guitars. For the price they're tops - way better than the asian or mexican acoustics around the same price, but I wouldn't put them up there with the hand made Martins, Gibsons or even the Taylors that cost over $1k.

don't know anything about those models, timsch. But every Martin model I've picked up in a store and played are awesome.
I don't know if it's the wood they use in PA, or if it's the handcut and hand crafted work they do versus the factory, assembly line cutting or what. They all have a great tone and richness to the sound.

Here's an opportunity for a free Martin: The Avett Brothers want YOU to cover their latest single "Live And Die", taken from the new album The Carpenter. Your cover version can be done using any instrument you want, don't feel obliged to stick to a guitar, let's make this interesting! The best cover version, as picked by the band, will win a Martin D-35 guitar, the very same guitar the guys have been using for over ten years. Now here's what you have to do: 1. Watch Seth Avett's video message about the contest www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMDFt4-aIHg&feature=plcp 2. Learn how to play "Live And Die" with Seth's tutorial www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQWwiAZvfas&feature=plcp3. Submit your cover version at the Google Moderator page www.youtube.com/user/theavettbrothers/moderator 4. Submission deadline is Sunday, October 28.

How bout the Martin MMV or the D16? Any opinions on those models? I played the D16 for quite a bit when looking for a new acoustic. Great guitar, though I ended up going with the Martin HD-28V. You can't go wrong with a well made Martin that's for sure.
