What really sold me on the original take is the guitar artifical harmonics in the chorus. I get chills when I hear it.

Fantastic. Thank you for pointing that out for us. Never noticed. It starts at the 44 sec mark then again at the 1:27 min mark for anyone interested in this subtle touch mr. W. made to an incredible tune. I like the original on Friday's and the Alt every other day the best.
I also hear the JRotten-ness in his voice. Ironically at the same time the harmonics start....."Her hair was dirty in Februaraaarrryyy"

At the beginning of the original version, I don't think he's saying either "THE END" or "AM", I think it's just catching the "three and" of his count-off of the beginning of the song. You can hear the same thing at the beginning of These Days.
