I know it was supposed to be released May 8 (some sites said May 29), but I just got a call from Barnes and Noble and they received it today!

I picked mine up this morning, and while I'm only on page 25 I have to say it's a wonderful book. She really does a great job in describing late-80's life in Minneapolis.
Paging through the book, there's not an overabundance of Paul material. If it fits the narrative it's included. But one paragraph deserves repeating here:
"Paul, my sort-of new boyfriend, is so incredibly healthy. This surprises me in an utterly sweep-me-off-my-feet sort of way. Get this: He drinks his coffee with half the caffeine taken out. He eats fresh fruit every day. He retires around 10:00 P.M. and wakes up bright and early to either walk or bike around nearby Lake Calhoun. He works out on a Nordic Track. He writes and records music at home all day with an unnerving work ethic and unbelievable self-discipline. He grocery shops and cooks. He takes long, candlelit baths and reads Swami books. He meditates and reads. He quit drinking and drugging yet sill is fun. So many newly sober people seem like a part of them died once they quit their addiction. Not this guy. He still smokes, which makes him human to me. Here's the kicker: he wears a robe, pajamas, and slippers in the evening..."

A friend of mine is sending it to me, because he wants me to write a review for his web site. The waiting, is killing me.

This would make an excellent photo for the cover of Paul's next CD. I'm picturing lots of bubbles, Paul with sunglasses and cigar, reading a book on Sufism.

They smelled perfumed. They wore pastel eyeliner and freckles. They were darling." either that or they're waiting on him, and he's like signing a grape for them with his free third arm

Sunglasses, bubbles, cigar, and wearing Grandpaboy's hat. Seeing as though a few of you got yours early, I think I'll call Borders just to see if they have it in by chance. I ordered it last week, and the release date they gave was the 31st, I think. I thought about writing a review, too, but generally I don't like reviewing anyone I'm already a fan of. I still might. I'll post it here if I do.

Your right, the Paul stuff is somewhat back burner.. He is written as sort of the basic "cool guy" who cooks and entertains her.. kinda normal stuff. CF

I just got home from a trip to my local Barnes & Noble, to pick this one up. The first guy I asked looked on his computer and told me it would be released on May 28. When I told him some of my friends on the internet already had it and were reading it he just shrugged. Great customer service! I was browsing the shelves when another clerk asked if I needed help. Being unsatisfied with the first response, I asked this new guy the same thing. He looked it up and said that their warehouse DID have it, that he'd have it in 3 or 4 days, that no other B&N in Southern California had it, and that anybody who claims to have it did not get it from B&N, but "from Borders or someone." What a f*ckin' waste of time. This is why I buy on the internet.

When I went to B&N to preorder this two weeks ago, their computers did say it's release date was the 28th, although Amazon always has had it as the 8th. I'm guessing that my special order was erroneously processed when the warehouses received the stock.

The book is an easy read, and I have already finished it!.. But, I feel compeled to point out one error...When Laurie talks about the tour with Adam Ant she mentions appearing in Austin, TX at a "supper club situated in a suburban strip mall." I remember this 1993 show although I did not attend. The place was Sneaker's Night Club on North Lamar, which is sort of a seedy business/warehouse district far from the main music district, but not what I would call a suburban neighborhood. Also, the place was definately not a supper club.. It was just a typical bar with pool tables that catered to sort of a young, working stiff clientele. I actually saw several shows there before it closed.. Cheap Trick, Joan Jett, possibly others. CF

I just got a call from Borders saying my copy is in.
"Official" release dates obviously mean nothing.

The glimpse of Paul that we get in her book is circa-1993 Westerberg...She also depicts Paul as somebody who has alot of money...at least compared to her.. I had sort of imagined Paul as somebody just scrapping by, so this was sort of surprising. CF

CF This was just after Singles came out, and the rumors at the time were that Paul received a six-figure check as payment for the soundtrack.

Hey folks, Been a Replacements/Westerberg fan for years & finally got around to joining MWT. Monday purchased Petal Pusher & I now have my 1st official question: Does anyone know why one would write a memoir & not include pictures? Even the Books-A-Million associate did a double take when she looked at the book! Nice read & all but still...
