I think Paul already did a piano version for "Singles." I think it's just instrumental, though.
Ryan Adams' boyfriend is sounding good here, I'll admit. Except his mousy voice.

Wow. Never liked Mailn before. Now it's a seething hatred.
When listening to this, I get one visual: Too many rubber bands wrapped erratically around your head.

This is a joke, right? Bill Murray-eque?
Man, that's fingernails dragging on the chalkboard there.

Baw-hahahahahaha. It sounds like Kermit the Frog's less talented brother trying to sound sensitive.

Really? I think it's nice. The original's the best of course, but I don't think it's a shabby cover at all.
I dig Malin already though...

I like the version, but I am fan of Jesse Malin already. I still can understand that Jesse's voice might bother some folks.

I saw Tommy Stinson open for Jesse Malin here in copenhagen maybe 2 years ago..No offense to his fans, but Malin is super irritating...voice and between song banter...he's trying sooo hard to be a punk generation Springsteen..the songs are so melodramatic and he really never rocks at all..that being said....Stinson seemed to dig him, and I dont find the Bastards cover that offensive actually....if you can get past his pretentious singing style...I think the idea of a Bastards piano ballad done that way is pretty decent...I'd like to hear Paul do it like that, actually.

I like the slowed down version on BYOL better than this.

Cute idea, but this deserves the same kind of infamy as Tori Amos' similar cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It just doesn't work.

I'm already a fan of his and don't mind the cover at all. Actually its pretty cool and might expose PW a little bit.
I mean people who have never heard the original might be a little impressed with the lyrics. They are genius after all right?

I thought it was alright, the song is obviously meant to be sung over screaming guitars and he's trying too hard during the "the ones who love us best..." part but it's a decent reworking.

Yea, that was horrible...Kinda brings to mind William Shatner singing Lucy in Disguise or something... I do, however, like the Muzak Bastards of Young that Kathy posted in the News section. CF

I guess I can see why some people might not dig this. His voice is definently an aquired taste, but as for the cover, I think it's pretty bad ass.
I have heard this covered by a few other bands as well that some here might wnat to check out. The Cardinal Sin from Minneapolis did it quite well actually and Against Me! has done it, but I thought thier cover was incredibly weak.
