What are the most obscure or most rare songs by the Replacements or PW?
Slight distinction: Most Rare - the song that the fewest copies exist of (hard to judge in the MP3 era) Most Obscure - the song that the fewest people even know about the existence of

There are songs we know, and songs we don't know. But there are also songs we know we don't know, and songs that we don't know we don't know? Y'know?

Rare? I don't know if this even counts as a song, but how about "Whatever Happened to Paul," from, I think, the 2002 NY show only.

The ultimate lost rarity is the tape Paul made with Bob Mould sometime in the mid-80's. Legend has it they recorded some songs together on a cassette, but they both hated the result, and threw the tape out the window of Bob's car.
Imagine someone found that sucker...

Whatever that song is from the Tank Girl soundtrack. I've got it, but have no idea what it is.

It can't be that obscure if I still see copies of it in the cut-outs for less than $5. Cole Porter wrote it, by the way.

i'd probabley say that one of the most obscure westy songs (and i'm surprized no one has mentioned it) is outta my system. sure, it's on a cd titled "hot stove cool music," but i don't think alot of people know about this one. correct me if i'm wrong.

Didn't something come with an issue of The Bob? "Make Your Own Kind of Music." maybe? That's pretty rare.

There are songs that are obscure just because they ended up on soundtracks and foreign versions of his official releases (Wonderful Copenhagen, Be Bad for Me, 33rd of July), but I think the most obscure are the songs that he mentions in interviews that were recorded, but never released. Pleasure Of Your Company, Thoroughbred, King Of America, Cheyenne( listen to a short clip HERE). He also mentioned C'mon Little Bitch, but that ended up on Besterberg, so maybe there's hope that these other songs will surface someday, also.

A song called "Diary" or "Shopping Bag" is the last song still unreleased from a set of Stereo/Mono outtakes that surfaced shortly after those albums came out. "Outta My System" was on that, as well as "Making Me Go," and "As Far As I Know," all of which have come out officially in one form or another since then.

"Bad Worker" doesn't get mentioned very often. I guess that makes it obscure. Technically it's a Replacements song, but I don't think anyone besides Paul was in the room when it was recorded. I've always considered this one, "Hard to Wave in Handcuffs," and "Don't Get Married" a trilogy. I'm not even sure whether they're even outtakes from the same era, but they sound like it to me.

The song is actually "Two Raindrops", but it doesn't sound like it was ever recorded. Q: How does songwriting come to you? Is it inspiration, or just work?A: Both. Nine times out of ten, though, the sit-down-and -write ones don't ever make it. There was a song called "Two Raindrops" that was beautiful and everything, but when it came down to recording it, it just didn't feel right.
