Worst. Video. Ever. I remember thinking how dated it looked the day it came out. What's up with putting "Star Wars" on the theater marquee? Was this video taking place in 1977? I still love the song, though.

I actually like the video. It's so shoddy, even for its time.
The "Merry Go Round" video is interesting too. Basically they just mime the song and throw in some strobe lights. It's so crappy that I wonder if it was meant to complete the anti-video trilogy with "Bastards" and "The ledge". Sure, it isn't as openly "fuck you" as either of those, but there's a definite sense that the boys just don't care about making a good video and just willing to settle for a bunch of crappy strobe lights.

The Merry Go Round video looks like Citizen Kane compared to When it Began. I thought it was a good video, actually. It has a slick look to it and the band comes off looking really good. They all seemed like they were into the performance part of it. And there aren't actually any crappy strobe lights. Here's a link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIjGUQaDnr8

Much better video than I remember being. Still, it seems weirdly minimal and the visual effects seem more like an afterthought. I still get that sense of disinterest.

that video will always have a spot in my heart. it was definitely the visual introduction to the band for me, and largely, the audio intro as well. there are some of my all time favorite "music video moments" (if there can be such a thing) in iby: tommy vamping for the camera looking A LOT like (minus the bow tie) he belonged in poison. paul smashing the shit out of tommy's bass. paul looking like he genuinely hurt himself when he falls off the bass drum.

Not sure, but I dig it. Very glam in a good way. Paul is such a jerk to Chris in this video. Why'd he have to toss his drum sticks for? I really dig the moment where Paul and Slim are singing into the same mike. Slim is such an overlooked personality in the band. I like the cracked camera vision. In contrast to the "Achin' To Be" video, this one seems more "them". It looked like they were actually trying to give you a sense of how the Replacements were live. A good video, but it wasn't going to set the world on fire like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" did. Mainly for two reasons: 1)The song is too power-pop. Not a mosh pit anthem like "Teen Spirit" was. 2)Cobain was pretty. Paul was homely. Wicked interesting look at history.

Been watching it a lot since I found it. Ah, the memories.

Interesting groupie related ad libs thrown in there. What happens in Rotterdam stays in Rotterdam? That whole show is great. It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I remember a slowed down version of Nevermind as one of the highlights.
