I love Bob Mould. I got into Husker Du around the same time as I got into The Replacements.
I met Bob, Malcolm and David at a signing session and in-store gig appearance in London when Sugar released their debut single and they were all really friendly. I must have seen every single gig Sugar played in London, University of London twice, Town and Country Club possibly twice and 3 or 4 times at the Brixton Academy and I LOVED them. I was too young to see Husker Du play, but at all the gigs, they played at breakneck speed, rarely pausing between songs, like Husker Du did.
Bob's gig on Tuesday in London was OK, but nothing special. I mean he is a brilliant guitarist and was really getting into it, but other people playing Husker Du and Sugar songs just didn't seem right. They played a harder of version "Hardly Getting Over It" which was a disappointment and a quite soulless version of "Hoover Dam" and quite a few other Sugar songs as well as a few tracks off his not particularly good album. I would see him again, though, but PW at The Scala was miles better. Roll on the Husker Du reunion...........

I saw most half the set at the ACL Fest. Split it with Dave Alvin because I knew I'd be seeing Bob Wednesday in Mpls. I thought the set was great, one of the highlights of the weekend for me. The band sounds tight, real quick which is really cool and Bob was very into it. Can't wait to see them on the mainroom stage.

A friend of mine that likes Husker Du saw Bob Mould at the Taste, but didn't know he was from Husker Du. Once when I brought up the name Bob Mould he said, "Ugh! I saw him at the Taste of Minnesota and he sucked!" and went on to call him a "horrible guitar player".

Didn't he notice that Bob played I Apologize, Celebrated Summer, and Makes No Sense ?

He said he didn't stick around for too long, so he missed those. I don't think he would have recognized them anyways, since I think he only has Zen Arcade.
Although didn't Mould play Chartered Trips?

hmmm.... don't recall that one. But honestly sometimes it all runs together with all the shows I see. I didn't see him do that in Austin either but missed part of his set seeing Dave Alvin play.

Anyone else going to be at the First Ave show tonight?
I haven't seen Bob with a band since '90 on the 'Black Sheets' tour.
Going to rock tonight.

Did I hear right, this is BlastT's first visit to First Ave? Yes! They were closed when I was in MPLS last Nov. Ok, I'm on my way. Be in Minny in about 4 1/2 hours.

great show last night. great seeing everyone, too. great corned beef sandwich at o'donovans across the street.
greeeeeaaaaat.
seriously, though, bob & brendan rocked my ass. bob didn't say much, but gestured & smiled a lot. you know what they say about a picture being worth...
i especially liked his gesturing during the "mississippi river" & "new orleans" parts of hoover dam. hand on heart, etc. it was nice.
makes no sense at all rocked all sorts of ways.
this quote on the tour from bob's blog is great:
"Atlanta on Friday was great, the crowd was really giving us a lot of energy and encouragement. Very simple formula, folks: you give us love, we give you rock. "
indeed.

That show was definitely rockin. Sorry I didn't say goodbye to anyone, realized I had a chance to still catch a friends band at the Turf and flew out of First Ave. Bob really looks like he's having fun.
I know it happens pretty much everytime but I still think its kind of weird to see Grant wandering around at his shows. Must be tough for him, that Bob packs the house and he gets about 10 people.
