Here's a set list for the Austin show (to the best of my recollection, and not necessarily in the corect order):
Final Hurrah I'll be you AAA/Anyway's all right High Time Merry Go Round Someone Take the Wheel As far as I know Psychopharmacology Making me go If I had a hammer How can you like him Kiss me on the bus Looking up in heaven Born for me Swinging Party What a day for a night Waitress in the sky If only you were lonely (about 10 seconds of it--"I wrote that when I was like six years old") Skyway Crackle and drag No place for you Live Forever Love untold Valentine 23 years ago Little Mascara Mr. Rabbit Knockin' on mine Can't Hardly Wait I think I love you
encore: Alex Chilton
What am I forgetting?
It was a surprisingly good show. I'd lowered my expectations a little after seeing the Late Late Show performance, but this was much, much better.

"This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner NBC because its content was used without permission "
If someone wants to try it again, leave snl out of the description altogether. I've had knockin' on mine up for over a month without any hassle.
Hopefully, Lorne Michaels doesn't read this board.

I've uploaded it to YouTube and can be seen here: Tommy used to like to yell f**k in to the microphone back in those days, and I'm sure that the censors were ready to hit the "cut" button when he walks up to the Paul's mike, and were probably relieved when he yelled "darn it!" instead. Unless he really DID yell f**k, and SNL uses the the same filter that Kathy uses here, except without the "gosh" part. Link??? Searching for BlasT's youtube upload, I found a video of The Vertbrats doing Left Here in the Dark: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hucrzOfBpIc

I've still never seen the SNL version of Kiss Me on the Bus. The Comedy Central rerun just shows Bastards. In which song did Paul piss of Lorne Michaels? Was it the off-mic (or censored) "come on f***er!" he yells at Bob before his guitar break in BOY, or was it something more blatant in Kiss Me? I haven't been keeping up. Did Different Drum ever turn up on a bootleg? Better yet, can I just get an mp3 of him doing this song? He didn't do this one at the show I saw.

That's a shame. "Cut away" would be better.
I asked because in that kick-ass cover by the woman from Scout, I think she says "call waiting."

"cut away to a phone in another time zone" or "call waiting phone in another time zone" or something else?
I like "cut away," in the cinematic sense. Especially since there wasn't such a thing as call waiting in 1984.

I don't know. Here's the article, but you have to buy. (Someone posted a cheater way to get the story without buying it, but they've changed the site around, or I can't find it.) Yeah, there used to be a "print preview" link or something that would actually yield the whole article that you were supposed to have to pay to read.

You're right about day off without pay not being as good as one with pay. But maybe that's the point, he doesn't care. Anyway, it's a simile ... he's not the person who HAS a day off without pay; he IS the day off without pay. Doesn't it need "like" to be a simile? I think it's a metaphor.

I'm reluctant to participate in this nonsense, but after some deliberation, I want to be the first to say "Gunshy."
