One thing I learned, or I felt was fleshed out, was Paul's disillusionment with drummers. As recently as the Peter Wolf interview, and I remember a review around Suicaine where Paul said there are no good drummers under 25. I knew there were some swipes at Chris around PTMM, and obviously the Musician Magazine story that caused him to ultimately leave the band.
In demoing DTAS, Paul preferred the steady, unaltered time-keeping of a drum machine, and even at one time wanted DTAS to be an acoustic album. He resisted the transition of the groove from the locked-in demos to a living rhythm section (I can totally hear that on the album). I knew ADS had different drummers on it, but I never made the connection that some songs simply kept a drum machine on the final tracks.

I just checked and had pre-ordered this on September 17, 2012 when it was announced. Quite anticipated!

Reminds me most of "Let's Not Belong" and his duet with Joan Jett "Let's Do It." I like it.

Although I would LOVE to hear some new songs, I agree that if the new "Replacements" recordings aren't up to snuff they shouldn't release them; at least not as Replacements songs. That said, I would love to hear a full album of tunes in the vein of "message to the boys" which it seems that this band could pull off in their sleep. And new songs would likely give the new Replacements, if they still exist, a sense of purpose. 3 years of touring only the back catalog must get old. Paul never seems to come up empty in the songwriting department, so it seems more likely than not that he is not "dried up." I don't for a second believe that "whole food blues" and "poke me in my cage" were anything other than throwaways. Awhile back someone posted a video of Paul playing a new tune (not "whole food blues") on this last tour, but I can't seem to find it. It seemed like a legit song to me. Does anyone remember or have the link for this? Is this maybe the song? I always thought this song was bit overlooked by this board. It seemed like a new song, played once on the whole tour at the DC show, seemed pretty heart-felt and had a solid melody. Was a good sign of things to come. Maybe that's how it's going to exist--in our collective memories and via cell phone video capture.

Not sure if this is founded but the AV Club article is trying to say there is band tension while only citing the Pitchfork article: www.avclub.com/article/replacements-broke-again-220480Kind of lame to start a rumor like that. I haven't heard anything about in-fighting. You're more likely to see Paul and Tommy share a kiss on stage.

I imagine it has a lot to do with Tommy balancing out GnR and Josh Freese and his 17 other bands he drums for.

Yeah, I noticed this as well. The sound was absolute mud but I figured it was just where I was standing. It was really hard to make out any of the leads. Normally I wear hearing protection to concerts and I ended up pulling them out partway through to try and get some clarity and have it hit me harder.

Sorry my camera phone sucks. As someone who has caught a few shows of the reunion, I was disappointed I missed a genuine Westerberg guitar smashing. After an impeccable encore (maybe the most energetic I've seen so far, although St. Paul's show was more emotional) Paul raised his guitar and wanted to smash in into Tommy's bass, meeting in the middle, but Tommy declined. Paul called him a chicken but the moment had passed for him to smash it to pieces on the floor of the stage.

Great show. The encore especially was on fire. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to recognize the first solo song of the encore...at first I thought it was a cover of a Lifehouse song.

Sounds like a cool show but I feel like we need to retire the word "shambolic" in describing the Replacements.

That's awesome...Great long-time friend of mine, who I only see and/or talk to a couple of times a year, messaged me on Facebook today: "Dude! Got vinyl copies of Slim Dunlap's first two solo albums at Record Store Day! Don't know if you've heard these, but you need to get these, now, whatever it takes! Spectacular!" I've been trying to find a place to order the Slim vinyls online... I've been looking around and found it on ebay for no markup ($24.99 plus $4 shipping) so although it may be a record store selling left over stock, it is no flipper (my local record shop but they didn't seem to have it in stock). www.ebay.com/itm/Slim-Dunlap-My-New-Old-Records-Replacements-2LP-Vinyl-RSD-Record-Store-Day-/381234161419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58c353a70b
