You're not alone Hillbilly because I've always loved this song. It does rock and it has great lyrics.
I don't know how to play it though. Talk to GrtPlyr about that stuff.

That's strange. I was just listening to this yesterday and thinking one of my favorite lines ever is "This nine to five bullshit won't let you forget what suicide you're on." (Hope I got that right) And I even considered starting a thread about favorite lines based on that.

fantastic song. one of the best rock songs. ever. tremendous album, too. the only song i really don't like is "someone i once knew". i do like "a few minutes...", "silver naked ladies" & "mannequin shop", which seem to be pretty much reviled by fans.

One thing that makes it great is that it is so universal -- always rumors it's about Cobain, or Tommy, or PW himself -- it's just as strong no matter who you put in there.
By the way, what does everyone have agains "Few Minutes ..."? Great song.

I pulled out this album recently after not listening to it for a while, so great. "World Class Fad" is a great, great rock tune, "Few Minutes" is way underrated, and "Even Here We Are" gets better every time I hear it. "Silver Naked Ladies" is the only song I usually think about skipping.

even here we are is one of my favorites ever. seriously, 14 songs is wonderful, punchy rock album. if paul has any leftovers from this album (demos, outtakes, etc), DEMAND they be released in a massive box set.
DEMAND, DEMAND, I SAY!

There were some outtakes and stuff released on, I think, the World Class Fad UK single. It had Seein Her, Men Without Ties, and an alternate (and in my opinon better) version of Dice Behind Your Shades.

A friend of mine, who is g a y, used to sing it as "World Class f a g". He used to serenade his friends with "don't be sad, you're a world class f a g." Pretty funny.
btw, I hate the censors. f a g is replaced with "no no" and of course g a y is happy.

This song is damn fun to sing along with. I also love the "...you wax poetic about things pathetic as long as you look so cute"... line.

There were some outtakes and stuff released... an alternate (and in my opinon better) version of Dice Behind Your Shades. I agree with claypigeon. I think it is called the "Festicle" version (whatever that means...it sounds a little dirty) When Paul just breaks out of the song and says "Aah, f*ck you" and then the make believe crowd starts booing him I laugh every single time I hear it.

And how about Dice . . . with "the avant guards/gardes unlock your cage . . . " and "you're know they're lying, cause their lips are moving" though he might have borrowed that one. I get the feeling that a few of us out here have recently rediscovered this album. I remember being a bit down on it a few months ago.

Finding these "Paulisms" is 1/2 the fun of repeated listenings and glimpse of why hes a genius.
If you want it that bad be a World Class Fad remember to leave a trail of crumbs (hansel/gretel)
and from director
I shot and actor on the street it was my debut at directing they nailed him on the hands and feet
The last line in particular...I love the allusion to crucifixion that he uses. It works on so many levels.

Doesn't he actually say, "Ah, buttf*ck you"? Actually he does say "Ah, butt f*ck you". Even funnier that way. I love the part at the end when you hear someone yell "GET OUTTA HERE!!" It sounds so over the top that it's hilarious.

I am one of the people that got into Paul and THEN The Replacements. "14 Songs" was the first Paul that I bought and I have always dug it. Just curious, Brad. How did you discover "14 Songs"? The Singles soundtrack is where I first remember going, "Who's this?" And then I bought "14 Songs". One of my friends was a Replacements fan and when he heard I liked Paul he told me to go get "Tim". The rest is obsessive history.

I think three songs that may have given 14 Songs its "inconsistant" tag may be Knockin' On Mine, Silver Naked Ladies, and Black Eyed Susan. KOM because it's wordy and hard to figure out and probably not a good opener, SNL because the name and chorus is "SNL", and BES because of the questionable percussion. The first two have grown on me over time. Just a theory. I don't have the whole song list in front of me.
As I just asked on the Eventually thread, do people know how Paul got along with his 14 Songs producer? Is he well known?

Slightly different take on 14 songs. I always thought knockin on mine was a great opener. It sets the tone for much of the album. I almost think of it as AAA's big brother.
