The latest episode of Sound Opinions has a caller at the end mention a rumor about a new Paul Westerberg album making the rounds “underground.” What?!?!? (Scroll to listener calls at the very end of the show)

There’s rumours of a Tim remix coming this year from Rhino. Well, according to one guy on Reddit anyway….A guy on The Mats’ Reddit sub posted the following.

Tim is the album I'd most love to hear remixed with the deluxe box treatment. Hopefully we'll hear something soon from Mehr as to whether another Mats package is coming this year.

I hope "Nowhere Is My Home" is also given the remix treatment in the set!

Looks like that guy deleted his comment? Well, let's hope it's true. For me it's their peak, and while I hold that album in the highest regards, in spite of the mix, and generally am not in favor of remixes, it would be a great thing to hear. After this and DTAS/DMP, I don't think anything else in their catalog would need a remix.

Original Reddit comment:
While I can't share the details of when or necessarily if we'll see an alternate mix, I have heard one and it's unreal!! I'm not sure where to begin, but this album was robbed -- full stop. This new mix has the entire wishlist crossed off. The lower end of this LP that was all but neutered is finally back; Tommy and Chris are both present like they should have always been and everything is balanced in a way that shocked me upon an initial play-through. The shimmery gloss of copious reverb and sparkle is gone. No more anemia. Paul's vocals have a much more honest sound; they're strikingly unassuming and don't sound as if they're sitting right on top of a shelf and made of glass. I feel like this album when properly mixed really showcases how the band was evolving not only sonically, but in regards to their refinement as musicians and over-all finesse just as well. Paul isn't necessarily shouting or throwing his voice like at times in prior albums, but that's not to say he's holding back... this just sounds right: a sweet spot of vocal talent IMO. It's apparent he was taking full swing at song writing.
Ps. there is a Bob solo at the end of Little Mascara that is so killer that I now will anticipate it from track one alone. That and there's a piano track that returns and accompanies the entirety of Here Comes a Regular. I might go as far to say that this track takes on a new life, one less ethereal and sparse, but more raw and desperate.
It looks like he deleted it after other users called b.s. based on his previous posts. Looks like he just made it up.
It might be bullshit but I dunno.
I went back and looked at his previous posts before he deleted em. All of them have been about music/ vinyl and going back a bit in his post history, he spoke about working for some kind of record company or distributor…. It could be bullshit, I mean it does sound to good to be true, but then there’s a part of me that wants to believe…. I kinda feel like Fox Mulder typing this.

Other users realized it was b.s. because less than 24 hours earlier he was fantasizing about what a Tim remaster and wishing for it to happen. Then hours later he posted a detailed review of his fantasy remaster, pretending he was given a special exclusive listen.
if you click on the "replies" link, she responded to the guy and said, "He's more than fine."
Which is good news. So it's not like he's got long covid or is in bad health or something. Just hope he'll resurface at some point soon and release some new material

Tommy Stinson made mention of a show on ABC TV called "The Goldbergs" on his Instagram page last week. Said there would be a "musical surprise" you wouldn't want to miss. I checked out Season 10 episode 14, near the end of the show they used "Can't Hardly Wait" in one of the scenes.

Interview from Forbes magazine with Jamie Krents, president of Verve Records (Universal Music Group), apparently a label with a bunch of Grammy winners in recent years. Interviewer Steve Baltin asks him this in the middle of the interview:
Baltin: Who's the one artist you would just love to resurrect?
Krents: "I love Jimmy Smith, the organist, and I feel like he doesn't get his due. So I'll say that. He's been sampled by the Beastie Boys, it's not like he's unknown. But I just feel like he was such a master and he made such good records and he is so funky and not enough people still listen to Jimmy Smith."
Baltin: I was just talking about this with Bill Crandall at Sirius/Pandora. We're the last generation that's actually going to listen to The Replacements. And that bums me out immensely because Paul Westerberg to me is one of the greatest songwriters in the history of the world.
Krents: "I know what you mean. Except I walked in the other day and my 12-year-old son was playing "Can't Hardly Wait" on the guitar, and it's not from me. So maybe there's hope, but I'm right there with you. They're so underrated in the way we talk about The Velvet Underground. I feel like The Replacements' so influential, so underrated didn't sell enough records. Paul Westerberg still with us. I love his solo records. I think you're so right about that."
Baltin: But please sign Paul Westerberg.
Krents: "Does anyone have his phone number? I know he is still in Minneapolis, but I'd listen. My friend Don Was who runs Blue Note made a record with him, which I love. So yeah, I love Paul Westerberg."
