Beat you to it, Jodi. see "the replacements were a christian rock band' thread on this forum. They also played a bit of 'Skyway' directly afterwards -- cool, fun movie over all too.

Every so often I hear a 'mats tune blaring out of the sound system at the gym. This past Saturday it was "I'll Be You". Makes for a better workout (If what I attempt to do with my fat ass can be quantified as a workout).

They made a good choice of song. I love 'We'll Inherit The Earth' - probably my 2nd fave song on 'Don't Tell A Soul' (after of course 'Rock N Roll Ghost').

Within Your Reach in the movie Say Anything is probably the best cameo of a mats song... I think. Great song, great movie. Also, there was that commercial with Can't Hardly Wait in it. Some dude working the counter at 7 Eleven cranking the boom box... nice.

Anybody ever see the movie "My Chaffeur"? It's one of the cheapo films Deborah Foreman made after "Valley Girl", sometime in '85 or '86. "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out" is featured in this film, along with a Fleshtones tune, "What's So New About You"
The film has a few good lines, and Penn and Teller(!).
Does anyone know if a complete listing of movies featuring 'mats/Westerberg tunes is available? We all know of "Say Anything", "Singles","Saved", "Can't Hardly Wait","Tough Guys", Jerry Maguire", "Feeling Minnesota","Airheads", and now "My Chaffuer", but is there some website that might have a more complete lisiting?

Imagine my surprise to hear "I Will Dare" at Media Play this past Sunday. They seemed to be pushing the "Left of the Dial" box set, as it was also featured in their Sunday 4-color, and there is a big display of not only that box set, but quite a few other "Punk" and New Wave" compilations right near the entrance. Great - Strummer was so right about turning rebellion into money.

What song was in Jerry Macguire? Didn't know that Cameron slipped one in on that flick.... never noticed... or maybe I did but the "You complete Me" line forced a memory dump.....

Today two people at school were like "I heard Paul Westerberg on the radio the other day". That's all I have.

Figured out a possible reason for PW songs being in the movie "Saved"...
"Saved" lists a producer credit to Michael Stipe..... I'm sure he's still a fan regarless of the old band tension.... or maybe he just has the hots for PW these days??

'Airheads' has been on (Com Central?) recently.
Scene where Brenden Frasier sits sadly as DJ hostage situation unravels, 'Unsatified' plays.

Old tensions with REM?
I remember reading someplace that PW was pissed about Peter Buck playing on "I will Dare".... like he was brought in to bring some kind of respectability...
I also remember reading a Replacments article/interiview in Rolling Stone back when DTAS came out and PW was spouting (quite litterally) how they were the best damn band around and I think he mentioned/made a remark about REM at the time.... I could be wrong since it's been 16 years or so....
I do have an REM bootleg vinyl from that same period with REM doing a cover of Hootenany... But sadly don't have anything to play it on... I think secret agent man and 20th century boy is also on that same boot...

Is it bad to admit watching airheads? I thought that was a pretty funny movie. Chazz: Who'd win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God? Chris Moore: Lemmy. [Rex imitates a game show buzzer] Chris Moore: ... God? Rex: Wrong, dickhead, trick question. Lemmy *IS* God. Rex: [Punches Pip in the arm] I'm not scared, Pip. Come on. Pip: I'm gonna stab your heads off! Rex: [Prompting] With what? With what? Pip: With my [yells] Pip: dick!
