For what it's worth:
"Bruce Springsteen getting his hair curled..." From "It's Hard To Wave In Handcuffs"
That's the closest thing to a Bruce/Mats connection I can come up with.

The 70's were saved by The Jam, Ramones, Pistols, NY Dolls, Radio Birdman, Clash, Boomtown rats......even the Police did more than Springsteen. Boomtown Rats? The rest of them, sure, but Geldoff was a better sanctimonious savior than he ever was a musician. As for Bruce, yeah, outside of the mention in "Hard to Wave in Handcuffs," I don't really think there's much connection. There is a strained connection to be made out of the fact that Jesse Malin loves both.

Oh, and for the record, I love the Boss. Behind Paul, but still another of my all-time fav's.
I'm one of the many who's opinion changed by seeing him live. Live, the man became a genius to me. In fact, I just got a great live show from '76, "We Gotta Get Out of This Place." A real dark show, with Bruce angry, and a great Ronnie Specter sub-set.
Oh, and something out of curiosity, BigWheel and other non-Bruce fans: are you from the northeast? I've found that outside of the northeast, people don't love Bruce quite the same way. I was wondering if it's a regional thing.

Elizabeth, you get dumber ever bitter moment you live. White people attending a baseball game leads to an analogy to a "clan (sic) rally." Both the premise and conclusion are utterly flawed. on the subject of Bruce - i read (in this week's Phoenix article about Theo Epstein and that benefit show) that Bruce said when he played at Fenway, that he never saw a venue so representing a community. As if our community is almost all white, and with enough money to go to his show, or even a Red Sox game for that matter. Have you ever been to a Sox game? it's almost like a clan rally. I don't think Bruce gets out much.

That is the sound of my jaw hitting the ground. Nigel is coming out punching today!
Yeah, and it seems the more west you travel, the less people like Bruce.
I went to Sox game and is was not a Klan rally, they had to wait till all the "filthy irish catholics" left to start the Klan rally.

Midwesterner here, but there are alot of Bruce fans here, the same ones that go see Jimmy Buffet whenever he comes around

I saw Bruce play in Toronto last year, and I must say, he can still put on an amazing show. I would have loved to have seen him back in the 70's or mid 80's, when he was doing his 4.5 hour shows.
I probably have about twelve of his records (plus some live bootlegs), so I guess you could say I'm a fan. The man carried, the rock-n-roll-poet mantle, when Dylan was going through his "Christian Music" phase. Then of course in the 80's, PW entered the picture, completing the holy trinity.

Yer right Gravy! Steve Earle was, and still is a fantastic songwriter. So is Guy Clark, who influenced Steve big time.

Townes van zant?
What do ya think?
Earle said he'd jump up and down on Dylan's grave(when he's dead) in his cowboy boots, screaming that Townes was the greatest American songwriter.....ever.

Townes was an amazing songwriter. Pancho and Lefty, Waiting Around to Die, If I Needed You...and the list goes on. Hey Gravy, have you seen the movie "Heartworn Highways'? (The documentary, that has Steve Earle, Guy Clarke, Townes Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, John Hiatt, and a bunch of other good songwriters in it).
