Sounds like jodi has a thing for F bombs! I thought all of Dilate was a good companion to Exile on g-ville. if only that were the problem. sadly, i have a thing for guys who break my heart and make want to listen to songs containing the f-bomb.

Is this the same guy that stood you up a while back? oh no, the guy that stood me up made amends, and then some. he's in my goodly graces again. it's just a general rule: heart breaking = song containing the word fuck. though the last real heartbreak had me listening to the jayhawks' "save it for a rainy day" on repeat for about two weeks.

i would have to nominate ani difranco's "untouchable face" and liz phair's "f*ck and run" as two of the best post-breakup songs. and when the broken heart mood swings the other way, nothing beats elvis costello's "god give me strength." Ms Dare - good call on the Phair tune. She does an acoustic version on a local radio comp album that blows the album track away. Very raw and emotional and excellent in the post breakup mood.

TEXT
Interesting discourse going on here about S.G. I don't know squat about I Pods, or I Pads.
I really liked it when it came out. Still do, but in lieu of what came after it (S/M & CFMT/DMS) it loses some luster based on (a). flat production and (b). some half-baked, good ideas. I know people bitch about the recent "basement tapes" because of the raw simpleness of the production, but the sound on S&G was "dull" raw to a great degree. S&G also didn't have the knockout rockers to offset the more introspective moments.
That said, it still gets played a couple times a year at my house and brings back memories; both good and bad.
As far as Westy following the depressive muse, I think he nailed it much better, or at least more directly, on STEREO. That record came out when my marriage went code red. My subsequent separation and divorce, along with having to take anti-depressants and get counseling, accompanied my listening experience to it. STEREO remains the breakup album du-jour for me.

I think SG is a decent album but is not even Paul's best solo work. That for me is 'Eventually'.However SG does include 'Born For Me' which I think is Paul's finest solo song so far.'Lookin' Out Forever' is a great song too.

ZooK, can you direct me to that local radio comp album? Thanks. That song's got it. Also, about Suicaine: apparently it was scorchingly lambasted by everyone on the alt.music.replacements board at the time it was leaked, pre-release. The vehement abhorrence of it by most fans seems to have abated, maybe partly due to PW's equally vehement defense of it on the recent tour.

Suicaine Gratifaction just wasn't the right album to put out at the time.

What album should he have put out? Top Ten Albums PW Should Have Put Out Instead of Suicaine Gratifaction: 10. Perfect's "Seven Days a Week" 9. Billy Joel's first record 8. His music - Avril Lavigne's words 7. Parliament/Funkadelic Unplugged 6. No album: just an "Actor in the Street" 12" 78 rpm single 5. "Rocky" soundtrack, without the horns 4. Re-release All Shook Down as solo record 3. "Singles II: Married&Employed" soundtrack 2. Folker 1. "The Lives of the Ballerinas" (Grammy for Spoken Word)

Hey Fungo I'm diggin' your avatar. One of the best who ever played! People kind of forget about him because he died so young.

Suicaine Gratifaction just wasn't the right album to put out at the time. I've watched the promotional video for SG that was tabled and PW talks about this topic, stating something to the effect that this was the only type of album he COULD put out at the time. Almost like he had some demons to exorcise.

ZooK, can you direct me to that local radio comp album? Thanks. That song's got it. TTBO - it was a Chicago radio station comp - Q101 is the station - that I think was called Random Acts. Unfortunately, I can't find any info on it anywhere. I'm also pretty sure the Liz Phair song was from a KROQ Christmas concert so it might be on a comp there too. I will look for it at home tonight.
