Sleater-Kinney on Tim: Let It Bleed…I don’t think there’s any controversy? I hope she didn’t get talked out of buying it.

Dando still (usually) sounds fantastic. His problem is that he’s a struggling addict. He did some pretty harrowing livestreams a while back talking about (then recent) heroin problems.

Every once and awhile I wish Paul would be more active and give us a little more music and then I see Evan Dando's social media feed and think "naw, I don't need my favorite singer/songwriter clinging to some relativity". Enjoy your retirement Paul. Dando’s got problems that Paul, thankfully, doesn’t have.

Random aside: Am I the only one who thinks Paul’s voice sounded different back then? Like, from Suicaine thru Stereo, it just sounded kinda constricted and nasally. Seems to have returned to form for Folker, etc. Yes, but people don’t like it when you point that out. Happens to most of us as we get older, but I think Paul shifted from throaty roar to nasal whine when he stopped playing with a band. It also doesn’t help that he kept writing in a register way higher than was comfortable for him. Folker might actually be the worst offender in that regard. I always thought it was weird that he didn’t write for his comfort zone as his voice changed. He could sound like Evan Dando, but he kept writing for a tenor voice. Jim Dickinson complained in an interview that Paul’s voice had changed by the time he got him for the PTMM sessions.

Chilton: “I’m really hot on the idea of getting on TV with just an electric guitar and no band… loud and feeding back and doing a couple songs real outrageous…” Paul did exactly that on the Stereo/Mono tour, didn’t he? Was it Letterman? I remember “High Time”… Letterman was Silent Film Star with drums and bass, Conan was We May Be The Ones solo acoustic, and Leno was Let The Bad Times Roll solo electric.

Half of it is great, I think. I think it’s also the record that made him say it was impossible to write great rockers without a band. I suppose that explains the title.

Thinking Jingle was the good one on Folker is pretty wild.

Tommy must’ve been pissed that Lay It Down Clown made the cut instead of Having Fun.

Yeah, the tracking becomes useless with that hand-off I guess. Mine never even changed to "on the way." The part that's more ridiculous is that months ago they publicly announced through multiple audiophile youtubers that they were improving their packaging in response to all the complaints surrounding their first two "Rhino Hi-Fi" premium releases, only to ship these out rattling around in oversized boxes with no packing material (or a single square of brown paper at best).
After a few more listens, I'd say this is easily my favorite of the reissues so far. The only thing missing for me is the original mix of Nowhere Is My Home. I still have my Boink! record, but a remastered cut of the original mix is kind of a weird omission, especially when the new mix is so different.

It’s a somewhat convoluted inside joke about the weather that was explained in full in the video that Rhino posted and then took down hours later. He’s singing “Auntie Em…Uncle Henry,” who are both characters in Wizard of Oz, which was a reference to Midwest tornadoes.

It might be on the way, my experience with Rhino on the various Mats box sets has been very poor shipping communication and shipping times. Mine never had any tracking info, didn't even show shipped, surprised the hell out of me when it just appeared on my porch last night. You were right. In true Rhino fashion, it showed up in an oversized box with zero padding. My 7” escaped it’s sleeve and was rattling around in there so it’s pretty scuffed up, but the box set somehow doesn’t have any corner dings. The CDs stayed put too, even though they’re kind of swinging loose inside those pockets. Booklet looks amazing and the poly-lined sleeve for the vinyl is a huge plus.

Got a reply from Rhino regarding the missing portions of my order. Geez they are just plain terrible about putting out packages on time. Thank you for contacting us.
Due to unexpected delays, the processing and shipping of our orders is taking longer than usual.
I am very sorry for this inconvenience, and we are working to get your shipment out as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time frame for when your order will ship.
(You will receive a confirmation email when your order ships.)
I apologize again for the delay and thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,
Rhino StoreMine is stuck on "label created" and apparently hasn't left the Rhino warehouse yet.

In 1986, Cabaret Metro was easily the best sounding venue in town.

Rhino shipping update: An audiophile YouTuber suggested ordering a merch item along with your record in order to force Rhino to put the record in something other than their terrible record mailers.
I just discovered this doesn’t work, because I just received my merch add-on for the Tim box set. Lol. At least it qualified me for free shipping. So the box is still going to ship in whatever they’re shipping records in at this point. And they’ll probably break down all the bundles and ship all that stuff (shirts, hats, mugs, etc.) separately. In fact, I don’t think the merch extras are even coming from Rhino, because the return address on mine is in San Diego and the company name is “The Replacements”

And if you haven’t ordered direct from Rhino, just look at the past Mats box set threads and see how each one of them devolved into a list of all the ways Rhino screwed up the shipping. For Dead Man's Pop and the PTMM box, I ordered directly from Rhino both times and everything was perfectly fine. I ordered Tim in the same manner, hopefully their shipping hasn't devolved into crap. It’s always been bad, but they’ve promised an improvement this time. I’ve been lucky too, but just look at those threads. Everything from missing contents to never receiving anything at all. Once I realized that they might never ship my DTAS box, I just cancelled and ordered from Amazon. The primary complaint from the audiophile crowd on that Cars release was damaged sleeves. Rhino claims they’re upgrading their packaging, so we’ll see what they get sent in this time.

Looks like Rhino is up to their weird shipping nonsense still. I got a shipping notice for my Tim order yesterday, but the tracking number isn’t real. It’s not even the correct amount of digits. Not to mention that there’s no way these should be shipping yet.
Rhino recently came under fire for their lousy shipping and customer service when they gained a bunch of new customers from the audiophile crowd with their Cars release. I’ve seen multiple audiophile YouTubers claim that Rhino has stated they’ve promised to address all their problems, so this Tim release will definitely test that claim.
And if you haven’t ordered direct from Rhino, just look at the past Mats box set threads and see how each one of them devolved into a list of all the ways Rhino screwed up the shipping.
