Despite the amount of enthusiasum going around. Three unheard tracks isn't ticking me. I unregretably put my money down to buy Springsteen's Greatest Hits but atleast he gave us a couple new tracks, rerecorded tracks and previously recorded tracks. I've never been that big a fan of these BEST OF or GREATEST HITS compilations but atleast when the artist puts a little bit of effort into marketing the record to the REAL FANS I can consider buying the record. I'm guessing this record is generally going to be purchased by fans who want a retrospective of Paul and don't want to do the history. I'm guessing nearly everybody here has heard and owns all of Paul's work so I'm curious if those same people aren't going to buy the new record. Just curious friends.

I'm buying it because I'm a saddo completist. Sometimes. Plus, I want to look cool checking out at the record store.
j/k, I'll probably get a promo copy if I'm lucky and they're sending some out. If not then I will go ahead and buy it if just to put a couple extra pennies in the pocket of my favorite musician.
I doub it's something I'll listen to much though. Maybe the unreleased tracks but otherwise I have most of it already.

I will go ahead and buy it if just to put a couple extra pennies in the pocket of my favorite musician. Thats one of the reasons I'll be getting it. Plus I am looking forward to the unreleased stuff. I like having the CD. I'll actually be buying two copies though, my mom wants one. Awhh! |

With Rhino packaging it, the liner notes, photos, etc will also add to the overall experience, so I'll buy it. It'll also be nice to have quality versions of the 'rarer' stuff on there, and it'll be interesting to see how all the songs have been mixed to sound next to one another...

i have the promo and i'm really liking it. though Besterberg is a clever name, it *is* misleading -- i wouldn't call this a Best of CD, esply since Stereo is so underrepresented.
i do wish there was a 2nd disc for the rarities, etc., so that the 1st disc could be a truer Best Of. i'd never heard A Star is Bored or Stain Yer Blood before and i'm loving them both. but why oh why must i listen to those dorks from Friends at the end of SYB? it's so annoying... i'll have to edit them out in iTunes. i'm wondering if contractually that dialogue has to be at the end of the song; i can't think of any other reason why it's on there.
i have a new appreciation for Dyslexic Heart. didn't like it much when it came out and i still don't like the na-na's, but it's a good song, and damn, paul's voice sounds great. in fact, one of the best things about the 14 Songs-era stuff is paul's voice -- i think his vocals were at his peak then. or the producer and engineer did a great job recording them. prolly a combination of both...
the liner notes are cool. most interesting is that Runaway Wind was offered to robin zander but he turned it down. (there's someone else with a killer voice.)

I can't quite see the Trick doing Runaway Wind. I think the spark tie is too close to the Flame and really lets not get into a discussion about that. But yes Zander is one of my top vocalists. |

Steve Spickenreither asking me to dance to The Flame. I think I still have the record and now I'm going to have to go dig it out. I always did like Ghost Town on that album... As to Besterberg, I'm disgusted that there are Friends on it. That's one of my most hated shows, next to Sex & the City. It's a real bummer that they made it on a PW album.  And Monkey, you're going straight to hell for posting that pic. |

i'll buy it the day it comes out, and piss off if you don't like that answer.
edit: that came out way harsher than i had intended. i will be buying it the day it comes out. $12 is a fair price for good packaging, and those three songs. i have paid more for less before.
oh, and no more spoilers about the liner notes!
