This 43 minute interview is from 1986, but was new to me. Thought it might interest others. www.kcrw.com/music/shows/bent-by-nature/paul-westerberg-the-replacements"In April of 1986, Paul Westerberg was in town to film the now-iconic video for The Replacements' "Bastards of Young." While in LA, he and his then-girlfriend, Lori Bizer, met up with Deirdre for beers at the Hyatt Sunset. In a wide-ranging and casually hilarious conversation, the three talk about the making of the video, the Replacements' reception on commercial radio, and Westerberg's newfound reputation as "the nicest guy in the world."

"Yoakam Shmoakam." That made me laugh too. What I thought was really cool about this interview was that it was Paul talking during The Mats’ heyday. So many interviews are him reflecting, looking back on when he used to be ‘that guy’. It was cool to hear him speak when he still was ‘that guy’. Hopefully that makes sense….

Thanks for posting. Just listened to a little bit, will revisit later. "Remember Vavoom from Felix the Cat?"- confirms even more to me that Westerberg, like me, was a pure product of childhood TV, some of his ideas and lines from that era. Haven't thought of Vavoom in over 50 years.

Just came to post about this. I didn’t know about the first wife, the flirtations with sobriety in the 80s, or that the Bastards vid was filmed in LA. FWIW - the DJ Dierdre O’Donoghue was so important in LA during this time. Important to me too. I used to record her shows and then listen to them the next day in the car. I can remember leaving a party and then hearing her play “Valentine” for the first time, before it had been released. I was so geeked, I called my friend Craig right away to tell him about it. The whole podcast about her is pretty great. Worth a listen. www.kcrw.com/music/shows/bent-by-nature

It’s a nice slice of the music scene that year. Tim rated as fourth best album by Hilburn.
