The odd review now and then will say about a PW or Mats song, that its a song the Beatles would have recorded if they were still around, or sounds just like it's off "Rubber Soul" or some such claim.
I know reviews are mucho BS half the time, but when they go beyond saying it's a little Beatlesy to saying, the Beatles could have written "Kiss Me on the Bus," I have a hard time getting a grip on the concept. Music's just not that fluid ... I don't see any overlap where they could "share" songs even in the most loose, metaphorical sense.
But maybe someone else understands.

I think the as-yet-unreleased "As Far As I Know" is the most Beatleseque thing I've ever heard him do. Obviously "My Daydream" and "Mr. Whirly" have direct Beatles influences as well.

Oh good call. If there's any crossover to be found it's that song and .... I don't know "Honey Pie?" You have a mind like a steel clam.

I agree with you TTBO. If the Beatles could have written "Kiss Me On The Bus" then why didn't they? I hate ambiguous reviews like that because it's like the reviewer doesn't want to take a stance on the album either way. They just drop a bunch of comparisons so they can cover themselves whenever the winds of change blow, i.e. "I never said I liked that album, I just said it sounded like..." or "I've always loved that album. That's why I said it sounded like..."

I don't know but I think it's pretty damn obvious that Paul has been greatly influenced by the Beatles...Some of the new stuff sounds a lot like the Beatles in fact a quick list comes to mind..Obviously My Daydream, Meet me Down the Alley, Crackle and Drag alt version, espescially when those drums kick in, total Beatles....Umm Whatever makes you happy, The Last, Two Days til tomorrow, 33rd of July, all that piano stuff on Suicaine, I mean even Here Comes a Regular has that Beatles Let it be anthemic thing going.
Sure mats and Paul never had the same production and instrumentation quality that the Beatles got, but I think Paul definately uses a bunch of Beatles melodic tricks.
Also Alex Chilton and Big Star were massively Beatles obsessed and we know Paul digz Big Star. If you've never heard the Sister Lovers album , You should seek it out, Paul learned a lot form this album

I think that "Nothing To No One" is very Beatlesy. I'm not enough of a Beatles fan to draw a specific comparison, but "Bookmark" always seemed very Beatles-inspired to me.

I can name that first tune: "Nothing to No One" is a lot like the Beatles' "For No One." Not sure about "Bookmark." Maybe the Beatles' "She's Leaving Home"?

I always thought that the back up vocals on Achin' to be had a very Beatle-est sound.
