Paul Westerberg wrote the song "My Dad" in tribute to his father who was in poor health at the time and passed away not long after. Some idiot on YouTube has misinterpreted the song as being critical of Paul's father. While it may be an innocent mistake/misinterpretation, it sickens me that someone may see his comments and agree. The video of My Dad by Paul Westerberg from AOL sessions in 2004 is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX4NKNJytUMThe idiotic comments are in a couple of spots where you need to hit "View Reply" to see this grotesque misinsterpretation. I'm not inclined to comment on YouTube myself. I'm hoping some Man Without Ties commenters can have Paul's back and counter comment that the song "My Dad" is not a slam by Paul towards his dad but a kind and caring tribute. It may be an honest mistake on the part of "Oppothumbs M" on YouTube. But, it's one that needs to be hammered down pronto. The song "My Dad" was an honest tribute by Paul to his father and any sentiment otherwise needs to be corrected ASAP on his behalf. I'm hoping people here will not just do so but also do so loudly and over and over again so no casual fan misinterpret this clown's misinterpretation as being true.

It can be mind numbing when someone misses the point of something, but if someone thinks Romeo and Juliet is a comedy, who am I to tell them it aint.

I'll comment here but don't want to start commenting on YouTube videos as a general rule.
I'm hoping to rally troops to counter comment so no casual observer accepts the idea that Paul Westerberg wrote 'My Dad' as a criticism of his dad. I think this guy wrote that it was three different times in his replies to other people's comments there. It's really a heartfelt tribute to his father (who was terminally ill when the song was written). Any help would be on Paul's behalf and is appreciated.

I understand the sentiment of wanting to set some moron straight and defend Paul, but I'm afraid it's casting pearls before swine. What's that quote from The Friends of Eddie Coyle?
"Life is tough...but it's tougher if you're stupid."
You're going to argue with a moron on the youtube comment section---is it worth it?
Here's a quote from Paul (it's listed on Kathy's lyric page):
“I try to write for highest common denominator. I don’t write for dumb people. I figure if everybody doesn’t get it, that’s OK. Someone bright enough will get it, and that’s who I write for. It’s probably not the way to make million-sellers. What can I say? I won’t apologize for trying to write for smart people.”

I was watching a video trailer for the movie about The Band. One of the comments says below Richard Manuel should be more famous. He rattles off the names of some famous soul singers including Aretha Franklin.
Someone comments that Aretha Franklin should be unknown because he doesn't like her voice or songs. I was wondering who would think such a thing. It's the same guy who commented on how 'My Dad' is about Paul Westerberg's dislike for his father.
I hate to comment on someone saying stupid things on the internet since that's like saying water is wet or a headline of "Dog Bites Man". It was funny to stumble across that same clown again.

I wish they would get back on the road again soon.
