I ended up seeing her at the Austin City Limits festival last October, where I went to see The Replacements...I didn't know who it was at the time, though I had heard of her previously...You probably know how these big "fests" are: there are multiple stages, sometimes with more than one act playing at the same time...I asked my host, who, supposedly knew more than me, and he kept telling me (consulting his smart phone): "Well, it says this is the 'new voice of country', Nikki Lane, or Nikki Lake"...Didn't sound very "country', more new wave...But I really liked her...After I got home, I looked around at the lineup, and decided: "I think that was Jenny Lewis"...Already had a thing for her, because somebody here posted this clip where she was being interviewed backstage at yet another one of these big festivals, and she saw Tommy Stinson, and immediately reverted to a 14-year-old girl geeking out over one of the biggest alt-rock bands of all time: "Oh, my God...That's a Replacement..." Pretty cool...

I've had a thing for Jenny for years, and not because she gushed over Tommy in the interview that I posted from the Shaky Knees Festival. Had no idea she was a Mats fan until I saw that video. Her stuff with Rilo Kiley is pretty good, but my favorite of hers is the album "Rabbit Fur Coat." It's probably because of this record that you had heard she was 'the new voice of country.' I highly recommend it. I hear her new album is good as well, but I haven't heard it.

jenny lewis is pretty amazing. the new album is great, last one, too. side one of "more adventurous" is probably as good as any album side in the rock and roll. i wrote this about the album recently: newswhistle.com/archives/15941
