hi...new to the board, but i've been lurking here for a while and learned some cool stuff from you folks.

i've been wanting to learn to play this one for awhile, but I've been having trouble with the intro riff. Just wondering if anyone had any tabs/hints/tips how to play it.

I think it's in standard tuning. Here's some of the stuff i've found on the web so far:

is just a slight bend and release on the F#.

Pre-chorus, I guess? Parentheses separate the left and right guitar tracks,
only difference being that Bob plays octaves while Paul slams power chords.

...and, there's more, of course, but these headphones start a-pounding at my noggin after a while. I'll come back for the solo and the neat diddly at the second chorus. Plus, I just heard some little stuff at the end I've never noticed before, so there's that too. Hope that helps for now!

That's way more complete than I was hoping for and it's been a big help. Thanks so much for your effort. I liked your annotations, too...especially the bit about "mandatory sloppiness."

No problem! Glad I could be of some assistance.

I made an effort to make some additions and corrections to the tab, but a simple backspace at the incorrect time sent me back here and left me 15 minutes back, so I'm just going to state a few things here instead, for the time being:

• Left side speaker in the verse is holding G chords, simple as that, and playing the descending riff at the end of each bar. It also does that bluesy bounce off the F# when building up the descending riff.
• Pre-chorus edit: both are playing octave chords, and the second time around, at the end of the bar ("I don't give a single shit!") it goes C, B, then does the rundown (C-B-A-D).
• Ending: you can play along the verse riff with the right speaker, or try to follow Bob in the left, which I am not confident enough to say I've got down-pat. Regardless, song ends on an E minor, with a double-stop and single bend, where you're bending the 12th fret on the G-string and holding the 12th fret on the B-string.
