All Shook Down - original It could be a reference to Tom Waits' Rain Dogs. It's a literal representation of the expression.

Sorry Ma - seems to have been copied from Clash single "Clash City Rockers" I saw those comparison pictures that you posted and I refrained from putting my 2 cents in, but now I feel I have to. The only similarity I saw between the Clash single and the Mats cover was the colors were similar and they both had black and white photos. I would guess that this was not done intentionally. Bongwater also had a similar color scheme for one of their albums in the late 80's-early 90s. 3 color printing is a lot cheaper than 4+ color printing. My 2 cents.

Fair enough, Studly. To my eye, they were the same just turned 90 degrees: ripped light blue strips alternating with b+w photos, lettered in a similar scrawl. The Mats album also came out within a couple years of the single, when punk design was hot, not a decade and a half later like Bongwater's. Could well be coincidence though.
The rain dogs connection is brilliant. I wouldn't put it past Paul, whatever he says. That cover stands out as the only non-homage, non-band/PW photo. Had to be something to it.

No reason to get snippy. I just stated my opinion on something you had posted. You think they are similar and I think that the only similarities are the colors used and the use of b&w photos... No big deal.

you want snippy, I'LL GIVE YOU SNIPPY:
Listen Liam, I've got more important things to do than correct you on every interpretation of freakin Mats graphic design you don't go along with. Now get your gassed-up casket over to a record shop and see fer yerself already.

Actually, for Don't Tell A Soul... The first one is an Only Ones record from 1984. Looks a bit too similar to be coincidence. Faith At first glance, that picture makes Peter Perret look like Prince. Now that's scary...

The rain dogs connection is brilliant. I wouldn't put it past Paul, whatever he says. What he says about the dogs representing him and Tommy lost in the rain actually fits nicely with Tom Waits' definition of a rain dog. Dogs mark their territory, and when it rains all the piss gets washed a way and they can't find their way back home.

Sorry Ma:
The colour scheme from Clash City Rockers combined with the front of the album of 'The Clash" LP...
cool...
BTW I have a friend who a while back printed a 'Noam Chomsky' T-shirt - to complete the trilogy.. Elvis; London Calling and now Chomsky...

"Fair enough, Studly" was not only nice but very mature). This is the only time that I have ever said anything about your little graphic design comparisons. Actually, I think that this is the first time that I have ever posted anything in a thread of yours that is not a poll. You asked for opinions ( "This list look right?" ) and I gave you mine. But thanks for illustrating to me that you are always right. Sieg Hiel!

Wow - I leave for a few days and the first post I come back to is this! It's like watching my brothers fight about who took the last ho-ho. Liam, Tory - bury that hatchet! I think there is a little too much reading into these posts - I thought both of you made some good points in your initial posts and I thought both were non-attacking. But the problem with communication by technology is the lack of non-verbal cues. A case of mistaken reads here and an attempt at humor that didn't get taken that way. Now cut it, let's all have a pint and get along - I'll even bring the ho-hos ;D

wow, I think this is the first time I have ever seen TTBO get "snippy" with anyone (with the one exception being, of course, the time he called elegant mule "Mad Cow" ), and I think I like it...
I, for one, would like to see this dispute elevated to the next level... ;D
