No tales of social injustice Postmodern troubadour declines To comment -- he's content to Hum and to strum, Wasting his breath his long crime
No songs of shanties or unrest Reality TV is just fine Last night's dying star etched on his guitar, read, This here machine, it kills time This here machine, it kills time
There's no rest for the high speed With their handheld nursery rhymes Line the pockets of kings lie shiny things It'd be a shame to be left behind
So I stole a man's cell phone Just to watch him die I made my own past And I sang from the death, This here machine, it kills time This here machine, it kills time
Took pictures of myself and sent them to the sunset To my disappointment I got no reply
So next I text the moon, I said, I thought we was tight Nowhere to be found, I threw it to the ground And swore into the night Swore into the black night
Now the stuff that life is made of Slipped away without saying goodbye He left his guitar in the [?] This here machine, it kills time This here machine, it kills time

This video has a lot of stills of Woody Guthrie and his guitars with the phrase that inspired PW's song title: "This machine kills fascists."
Before this I'd only heard the Billy Bragg/Wilco version.
