in a manner suggestive of the rootsier moments of the Stones and/or the Replacements. "and/or" ... couldn't decide which one or if it was both. typical!

On his radio show long-time 'Mats fan Jim Rome mentioned he hopes to take in a couple of Paul Westerberg's LA shows.

Today I was wearing a Replacements shirt and my english teacher Mrs. Flanary told me that her couson was the mother of Tommy and Bob Stinson (unless I'm mistaken and they don't have the same mom, then it's just one of them). I told her that they were my favorite band and that my favorite album of last year was Tommy's (I like it even more than Smile, not that it's grown on me).
That was pretty cool.

From Parental Advisory: Music Censorship In America.
I thought the video contained images of the Replacements sitting around looking bored and eating junk food.
And isn't it kind of ironic since MTV didn't play their videos much anyway?
And five years later Pearl Jam makes a much more graphic video on the same subject, and it becomes a hit.

Sounds like someone is getting an "A" in English this year You're right, Bob and Tommy have the same mom, different fathers.

Helping Tony and Kim move into their new home this past Sunday, and I have PW blasting from the truck's stereo - CMFT. As a few guys and I are lifting little Amanda's playhouse out of the bed of my truck, "Wild and Lethal" booms out of the cab. One of Tony's pals I met that morning looks over at me and says "Hey, this sounds like a band called the Replacements. ever heard of them?"
Needless to say, we talked music for the rest of the day, and he'll be attending the PW show at the Gothic on the 3rd.

Anthony Roman of the group Radio 4, in "Let Fury Have the Hour: The Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer":
" ... he came out through the back door. He had a leather jacket on, the Strummer quiff was in full effect, and he was carrying the infamous Telecaster guitar in his hand with no case. Joe spotted us and suddenly approached us. We were completely stunned. We nervously managed to remark how the Telecaster in his hand was the same one from the 'Rock the Casbah' video with the Ignore Alien Orders sticker placed among scores of other decals, scratches and divots.
"He asked us if we wanted to play the guitar. Now we're playing Joe Strummer's Telecaster as he begins teaching us the intro chords to 'Clampdown' while he tried to remember the mumbled spoken word part that kicks off the song. He told us that the spoken word part was about a dream that Mick Jones had regarding a helicopter crashing into the studio where the Clas were recording London Calling. After this we discussed reggae, Latin music, the Replacements (he wasn't a fan) and he even grabbed my friend a little closer when a New York City cab zoomed a little too close to him."

It's intermission at a middle school musical. On my way from the cafeteria back into the theater, I nod in passing to a ten-year-old I don't know well but was in my son's kindergarten class. He pulls me aside -- "Westerberg's gonna be on Craig Kilbourne." "Yeah," I say, "Monday." My spouse is astonished ... a seemingly random kid makes an unlikely undercover agent passing information about Westerberg. But I've seen the kid and his dad at Westerberg shows in MPLS from across the room, and I guess they've seen me.

I can't afford a blog, so this thread will have to do.
Watching the Oscars, special lifetime award for director Sidney Lumet, his films flash by, and one of them is: The Fugitive Kind.
Is that a common phrase, or did Paul get his title from that movie?

I've always suspected that the movie was the inspiration for the naming of "The Fugitive Kind." The film is no masterpiece, mind you, but you do get to see Marlon Brando play a hillbilly cat guitar slinger who sports a slick snakeskin jacket.
The song itself is pretty durn great, though.

I had gotten on a guest list to the sold out Modest Mouse show at First Ave last night. I wasn't going to attend but thought, its free and its monday night so either have drinks at the bar next door to me or at First Ave, I'm sure you realize what I'll always choose. But in the music they had playing before Modest Mouse went on, Seen Your Video was pumped out over the club. I think this music is chosen by the band so I found that very cool. Some guys next to me were saying how that record was their favorite, "like of all time man, I think I just popped it in the other day." I kind of laughed and thought thats cool. I feel the same way about the record but I barely go a couple of days without listening to it. Thats how addicted I am to it.

Friday morning the left o' the dial station was giving away tickets to Paul's Columbia show; to make it more challenging the dj asked possible winners to name the Replacements' drummer.
For about three seconds I considered phoning in and answering Steve Foley.

Was that "Bastards of Young" on Morning Sedition this today? Marc Maron… sigh…
Re: Fugitive Kind Based on work of Tennessee Williams (Battle of Angels, Orpheus Descending). Agreed that maybe it’s not Williams’ best/strongest work. That said, like Westerberg, I’d take him on his worst day over most artists on their best. And I like making the Williams, Brando, Westerberg connection.

Watched "School Of Rock" yesterday - anyone else catch "The Replacements" as the second branch of the 80's Punk Rock offshoot, right after the DK's?

I have no random sighting to report. I wouldn't mind a planned sighting, though. As in PW playing in the Western NY region(Rochester would suit me just fine). I realize this isn't the proper thread, but I couldn't resist. Tommy played Buffalo a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't make it(before I'm berated, my son has a single Dad). O.K. Resume the Random sightings.

a couple of nights a go I caught the end of some infomercial on tv about the greatest rock albums of all-time and Tim was one of 'em. Said The Replacements Tim and showed the album cover. Watched for it last esp. considering it said "Tune in next for the evolution of modern rock" or something like that, but didn't see it.
