I spent a month on Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands last fall. (Lucky me, I know.) In the Hard Rock Cafe, there is a black bass guitar on the wall from "The Replacements." There is a happy face scrawled on the body. It's still got grime on it. I'm guessing Tommy Stinson sold it to the resturant.

The Current just played Let's Do It from the Tank Girl Soundtrack. Really put me in a better mood. Despite the fact that my throaty rendition was the oddest ever. Doesn't help that my tonsils have almost completely shut off my throat from the rest of my body.

"The list is intended to honor "hits"--singles (some actual hits), songs, individual tracks--made by folks who were actively creating and/or performing music in Minnesota at the time the tune was recorded, released, or regularly performed. So Bob Mould's work with Hüsker Dü is of course eligible, but the solo work he made after leaving town is not."
......"Bob Dylan, duly celebrated elsewhere, was also passed over, as were other Minnesota-born artists who did their important work after blowing this pop stand. "

You know I didn't at first either, your post made me go back and check it out. Peter Scholtes posts on another board I'm on and I was ready to throw in my opinion on this until I checked that out.

The print version of City Pages has some extra stuff besides the list (only the top 50 and the studio history thing are online, I think): ------ There's a sidebar with mini-histories of five Twin Cities recording studios, including Blackberry Way, and a mention of the Mats recording Let It Be and others there. (Sorry Ma ... what else?) ----- The Top 50 listing: The Replacements I Will Dare live performances; also on 1984 Twin/Tone 12" single and Let It Be, Twin/Tone, 1984 Strange how deliberate--even formal--the 1984 recording on Let It Be sounds. In memory, a raggedly fervent invitation to...romance, yeah, and sex, certainly (lust ping-ponging between the singer and those smart girls in vintage wear). But something else also opened up live in the mischievous optimism of Bob Stinson's guitar figure. "How smart are you," Westerberg admired from the stage. Then, frustrated: "How smart are you?!" Not smart enough, speaking for myself, to both recognize the song's "hesitating beauty" (W. Guthrie) and answer its dare: What could I create in (for) this world, to show my love. --Terri Sutton ---- There's a listing of 200 or so "Minnecentric tunes," including: Mats - Buck Hill, Skyway, Hangin' Downtown, Tommy Womack (what's that?) PW - MPLS, The Gravel Pit (what's that??? Thought it was a venue somewheres else) They Might Be Giants - We're the Replacements ----- Critic/musician Dylan Hicks lists "Fuck School" among eight "This Could Be Your Life" songs, adding "sheet music available for pep rallies." ----- The line "I ain't no connoisseur cat/Some kinda sewer rat" is listed with four other lines under a "Who Are You?" headline.

I heard 'I'm In Trouble' on the way home yesterday.
Not much of a sighting, but definitely not the Replacements song most heard on the radio.

How many other 7" singles did the Mats release? (congratulations to this thread for passing the 2K mark. Can threads beagle? Can beagles thread?)

You kgp have banked so many frequent flyer miles into the depths of music minutiae that your ring is safe forever. I don't know either but I think it might have been their only 7-inch. End of an era, all that.

Kiss Me On The Bus Achin' To Be what's the b-side to Kiss Me On the Bus? That is like an ideal 7 inch single.

Thanks Mr. Blasty. "Kiss Me on the Bus" b/w "Little Mascara" would have been quite a deal at $1.89 or whatever 7-inch singles sold for then.
So that list is all 7-inchers, except the EP? then there's the 12-inch I Will Dare b/w 20th c. Boy and Hey Good Lookin.

There is also a 12" German version of The Ledge I got one of these about 10 years ago at a record swap meet for five bucks, and I haven't seen one since. "Election Day" and "Jungle Rock" turned up on All For Nothing, but I don't know where else you can get "Route 66" or "Tossin' & Turnin'"

Here's what the guy that played it wrote in his newsletter: The Replacements - I'm In Trouble -Twin Tone - one of my greatest treasures is this Replacements 45 - I'm thinking it was maybe their only single, dont know but both sides are great, "You're in Love and I'm in trouble!" what a great rocker!I still see copies of 'I'll Be You'/'Date To Church' in used record stores. Maybe you have to be punk to call it a 7 inch.
