I know how to play it, but don't have time today to post it. I'll post my tab tomorrow hopefully. Until then, GtrPlyr has a basic tab for it here. I play it slightly differently, but I'll look at some videos for confirmation on everything. There was a very complete tab of it on the Color Me Impressed forums, but the forums died, so that tab is gone. It's in Open A. Overall, it's not very hard to play, though some of the chords are kinda odd. Get ready to mash your fingers together.

Okay, I have a more complete tab done. It's still missing the ending, which I never knew in the first place, but will eventually get to. Any compliments or criticism is welcome.

i've got it completely figured out...soup to nuts and the way paul does it almost if not exact. i'm not the tabs king and not even a tabs peasant so i'm gonna try to rig up a camera and video tape it or rather video it (tape is old school)... coming soon. think the band will cover it. lately this one speaks to me. i'm not a big fan of covers as we are all original. i'm also not a big fan of covering your obvious influences but fuk it i love this damn song and have since it came out...

Hey, this is from the Color Me Impressed site and I think this is the absolute best way to play left of the dial:
From: Rocket Robin Hood (benalto@SPAMMERS_BE_GONE_benalto.com) Newsgroups: alt.music.replacements Date: 2003-02-05 14:21:45 PST
Tune your guitar in open A. [ regular: E A D G B E >> open A: E A E A C# E ]
Here's how to properly play the main riff for "Left Of The Dial": 1. Put your INDEX finger on the THIRD FRET of the B string. 2. Put your RING FINGER on the FIFTH FRET of the high E string. 3. Hit the rest of the strings open. If the main riff can be accurately described as "Dah-dah-DAH-dah-dah, Dad-dah-DAH-dah-dah", this is where your fingers should be for the "Dah-dah-DAH-" part.
4. For the remaining two 'dahs', you simply replace the RING FINGER/FIFTH FRET/HIGH E STRING with SECOND FINGER/FOURTH FRET/HIGH E STRING. This sounds SO MUCH better than faking it with a standard tuning. Paul plays this while Bob plays the actual chords in standard tuning, but if you want to do a switch over for the D sections of the riff, take your thumb and press it like a bad motherfucker over the 5th fret on BOTH THE LOW E AND A STRINGS. Yup, it's tough, but if you play a Gibson like Paul, it'll be a little easier. Don't attempt the thumb stunt on an acoustic unless you have gorilla hands to start with!
