hey, if i read this correctly, we here are about to turn 100 ... 100 pages of posts, that is. being new to this board, i’d like to ask a few questions and make a couple of observations as we prepare to celebrate this centennial event. observations: -- i find it funny that back in 2003, somebody had a post titled “catchiest guitar lick,” and here we are in 2008 with a post “guitar songs.” -- back then, there was a post about Laurie Lindeen, and here we are again, posting something about Lindeen’s blog. amusing, i think. kinda like being regulars, where the same conversations are occasionally revisited at the barstools. questions, and pardon me if these items have been covered previously: -- who gets credit for starting this thing up? -- any idea what happened on aug. 28, 2007 at 5:21 p.m. when this board registered the most users, 141? -- is there any evidence that Paul, Tommy, Chris have ever posted on this board or referred to it in interviews, etc? -- and, while the u.s. and canada are represented here, how many members are from other countries, and who might hold the title as member from the furthest reach? oh, and one more thing. i see we are also approaching a total of 10,000 100,000 posts. man, do we ever have a lot to talk about. here’s to the next 100 pages, and the next 10,000 100,000 posts. yes, we may all clap now.

Kathy started it. The Aug. 28 thing is some kind of fluke, not real, but it's stuck there. Paul has no time for the 'Net, not even or maybe especially sites like this. Michael Bland has posted here however.

There's gotta be way more than 10,000 posts. I think Scooter has over 5,000 alone. I remember a dude from Denmark being on here. Dave was it? Several from the UK. This place was jumpin' around 2003-2005 then the discord came... Cue subdued eery music. I think it's a fine place and that Kathy is a very cool hall monitor. The internet is so giant now people have spread out a little.

There's gotta be way more than 10,000 posts. I think Scooter has over 5,000 alone. tomt: i stand corrected. meant 100,000 (see above, original post). won't get into the "discord," but you know what's fascinated me about this board since i joined is how ecclectic it is ... perhaps, it's a result of many of the posters having stuck with the band since the 1980s and bringing with it numerous influences they've developed ... realizing it's ok to refer to Chuck Berry and Hank Williams in a board involving what began as a garage band and developed into something far bigger and important without losing those early roots, though. reaching 100, though, i think is a milestone that should provide cause for reflection. and i realize we'd all have very little to talk about if there wasn't new music -- or "old" (the reissues) -- coming out. and we can always hang our hopes on a reunion, of course. i guess i'm asking, what keeps people coming back to this board: -- safe haven from bad music? -- it's not brittany spears' site (though that might be entertaining)? -- debating for one more time which song is best/favorite (count me a bastard), and which album/song didn't work? -- having never had the opportunity to have a board when the band was out -- damn, al gore, should've come up with his little internet invention a little sooner -- that we're catching up on lost time? -- the "lost" thread? you must admit, we're a bit of a nutty bunch for following a band that never made it "big," while still believing it can ... or perhaps, should. and there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

I shouldn't have brought up the discord thing. It was the usual things that happen at 99% of message boards. People get into it, people say inappropriate things, some get booted, yada yada. It was just a livelier place back then. A lot of nuts with the raisins and bran.

I've been on a lot of boards and people come and go -- and come back again. It was much more active 2003-2005, but Paul had a couple records out, and was touring then. It's hard to get too excited when there doesn't seem to be anything (with the exception of reunion rumors) in the near future.

I've been around forever, I think. But when the releases / tours are slow in coming, I wander off for months at a time. Seems like a fairly nice crowd though - been very happy wasting time here...

It's the only board I've stayed tuned into (though lately have been remiss due to being busy).
It's a nice bunch around here. A very loose extended family of sorts. A Kurt Vonnegut sort of thing. Know what I mean?
