I hope this means that a new Grandpaboy album is in the works (he also mentioned g-boy a couple of times earlier in the interview):
"I'm constantly recording and playing down in the basement, and my voice is starting to sound really good lately. There's cracks and scratches in my voice that have been there since I was 19. It hasn't changed that much. It hasn't changed like Robert Plant, having that voice and now singing an octave and a half lower. Mine's a little different, but that screaming voice is still there. "

the fact that this seems to be more of a interview without specific regard for the re-issues gives me hope that your are right something working, reading to unleash on our ready ears!!!

"Can't Hardly Wait" in a Toyota commercial? Yikes! God, I hope that doesn't actually happen.

"Can't Hardly Wait" in a Toyota commercial? Yikes! God, I hope that doesn't actually happen. "Come on down for the 'I Can't Hardly Wait For It' sale-a-bration event at your greater metro area Toyota dealers!!!!" "The new Corolla... I can't hardly wait!!!" ...someone's got some gas that I can borrow, I promise not to blow the Prius again....

Wow. Paul Westerberg knows who Rancid is? Not that I like Rancid, but for whatever reason that surprises me.

Interesting comment on Tommy and maybe a change of heart regarding his own work and priorities.
Also sounds like the Slim Dunlap bridge is really torched.

That is good stuff. I just like how Paul is able to talk about the past now. It wasn't too long ago where he wouldn't really talk about the old days. I guess he's ready now.
Someone call Scorsece. Paul is ready.

"'I've never seen more loose screws in a band in my life.' That pretty much summed it up. There's usually an anchor somewhere. We were afloat."

this is a really good interview. i found it very hopeful. not for a 'mats reunion, but for paul's future. i love the fact that he is ready to yell again.
as someone else observed, he definitely articulated some bad feelings between him & slim.

Well, I guess Paul has been a pissed off at Slim for quite awhile, since at least 2002, in regards to the Buddy Holly tour: PW: ... I'll tell you one thing, I've talked to Slim - I called him up last week to sort of say 'OK, here you go - we're going, do you want to come?" And in five minutes, after not talking to him in five years, I got such a sense of negativity. He came up with every conceivable thing that could go wrong and why it shouldn't be done and what could be expected …" And it was like 'you old fucking man…." I just didn't have the heart to meet with him the next day.
R: Is that just the place he's in right now?
PW: He's always been like that - he's older than the rest of us, he's eight years older than me. He's turned into a crotchety old man but it's like don't you want to tour and raise some hell? He didn't. He works at a music store and he plays solo acoustic. He said something to the effect of 'I'll help you out again this time Paulie if you really want me to." And I thought 'help me out?' I've seen tapes and we were a band of three-and-a-half guys as far as I'm concerned. I'm saying do you want to go and have fun and ride the bus and listen to music? Go break some rules and whoop it up - even if we both end up in the hospital - which we both have. It's not out of the cards but he wasn't there. www.writegrrrl.com/paul_qanda.html

I was trying to remember where I had read that info that sorta explains why Paul is on the outs with Slim. CF

Slim also wasn't very flattering to PW in AOBTS. He confirmed a lot of the things that have been said about working with Westerberg.
