This will probably strike many on the board as sacrilege, but I've been pretty underwhelmed by the reissues.
I think "Sorry Ma" is probably my favorite, but even there I only liked a few of the extra tracks. The bonus tracks on the others didn't do much for me, either. There were a few decent ones here and there, but for the most part it's obvious why they were left off the albums in the first place.
A perfect example is "Temptation Eyes." I love that song, and I expected a Mats cover to be great. Unfortunately it sounds like some second-rate high school cover band.
Maybe they'll grow on me a bit over repeated listenings. We'll see.
I will now prepare for the barrage of insults and invective that is sure to come my way.

I pick "Good".
I honestly don't think you'll get bashed for having an opinion. If you said "Anyone who likes the reissues is a moron", well, then I can see a problem with that, but "I don't like them" isn't sacrilege.

put me squarely in the "good" column. some are throwaways, but some are very, very good & even enlightening. some i have had for awhile, but my napster version sounded like shit. some i only had on vinyl.
now, i have them on cd. "good" most definitely "good".

Good for the tweaking on the sound quality, and a couple of my faves I've never had on CD like "If Only.." "20th Century Boy", and the original 4 song demo. A lot of the other stuff is good or okay. Oh, love Rock around the clock too. Stuff like alternate vocals is okay, but not essential. The packaging is great too!

Good. Pauls solo demos ie: You're Getting Married, Bad Worker.
Very clean version of If Only you Were Lonely. I love the original 4 song demos. Johnny Fast rocks ass.
The talking snippets at the end of each disc crack me up. Anyone know what bob is talking about at the end of Let It Be? Something about alcohol, matches and ..... shrubbery? ;D That dude was a trip.

I didn't get any of the previous remasters and don't know if these are an improvement on those or not, so in that sense these may be redundant . But having some of the Bonus stuff remastered is what it's all about. Outtakes are for a reason, so I didn't expect everything to be great, but alot of it is. blah..blah...Good.

For what it's worth, I was only talking about the reissues from a musical standpoint. The packaging is good and I've enjoyed the liner notes [for the most part]. I also haven't actually listened to much other than the bonus stuff, so I can't comment on the improved sound [though unless it's really dramatic - like perhaps adding some bottom end to Tim - I don't really notice that stuff].

The improved sound quality is what does it for me. I'm not too keen on the Temptation Eyes cover either, but then again, I didn't like the original.

What really strikes me is the incredible variety of the Mats' music. Each album has its own unique sound, even sounds as if it could have been recorded by a different band. This might explain why opinions vary so radically about what their best record is; there's something for everyone in their catalogue.

I haven't really sat down and listened to these albums in years, so the reissues are like being re-introduced to an old friend.
The only thing that bugs me is that walking across and unlocking the vault sound before the extras. Cheeeeeeeeeesy.

i'll 2nd senor bronx,,,,the versatility of these guys at such a young age is astounding..i would throw down a challenge , more so to see what names get thrown out, to see, whom people think had that kind of ability...it blows my mind knowing paul sang "stuck in the middle" and also "you're getting married" within the same few months...although he's always had that innate ability to cross genres like that...they were one of a kind...and god bless/damn them for it...it made all the difference for me....those 4 guys gave birth to my ears...i have been trying to live it down ever since.....

[<<<<<<<<<will probably strike many on the board as sacrilege, but I've been pretty underwhelmed by the reissues.>>>>>>>>>>>
The first batch of reissues really SUCKED, those didn't even sound that great and with no bonus tracks.
<<<I will now prepare for the barrage of insults and invective that is sure to come my way.>>>>
In the late 80's and early 90's, I would have felt the same way about the latest reissues. Now I just love them. What choice do we have ? If they sell well, who knows what that could lead to? A reunion? More rarity releases, a box set? At least there is potential now.
After July 4Th, 1991 we had Paul's solo career to look forward to, now we have all kinds of possibibilites.
These reissues have generated more interest than the "All Shook Down" period and now my excitement is greater. I clearly remember the greatest excitement being when a package of boot tapes hit the mailbox. And there is always the ability to break out the boot tapes or cds like we did before the reissues.

And soon a live box set will be out. Will be very interesting to see what Peter has on tape. I would love to hear the whole '89 Milwaukee show where the 4 songs were released as a promo back then.
The best live show performance (for my money) is from 1985 at Amelias in Iowa City. The recording is crap but they were great as well as a really rowdy crowd. Classic stuff with great covers thrown in. Hopefully theres a good recording of it somewhere.

It's not bad. Picked up "Let It Be" today... Doesn't sound that much better than the Twin Tone remaster I already have.
