and it gave me goosebumps. it's so great to have a new mats article with extensive quotes from paul and tommy. it's just like the old days when i would pour over musician magazine's great articles on the band. it's exciting to hear about how much tommy got involved with these reissues. now if paul would just get off his ass...

Does Spin put their full articles online?

Their online site still shows the contents of the last (R.E.M.) issue.

I was amused with the picture of Chris supposedly hard at work painting...even though the painting in the shot is clearly already framed.
And the mention of Paul wearing a SpongeBob hat was a hoot. SpongePaul Plaidpants, indeed!

Finally got it. Thank you Target.
At 48, Westerberg has taken up hockey.
(I'm a hockey chick. This makes me happy.)

Finally got it. Thank you Target. Drove all over town. Last place I tried, & the only place that sells Spin, has the REM issue in the rack.

It's pretty cool that he's into it! (I'm a hockey guy. But I'm sad cuz the Washington Caps got eliminated in a game 7 OT loss to the flyers. ).

For those of you that have that issue, check the last page article about the Christian rock guy that died. Towards the end there is a surprise Westie mention, in a very good light.

You are a very careful reader... "says ..Gary Glover, 'He means as much to me as a John Lennon or Paul Westerberg.'" interesting combination... CF

The other interesting bit from Spin rests in the author bio. Says he is writing a Mats bio entitled Trouble Boys.
Seems we are having a run of mats related bios!
I think Bob Mehr could write an excellent bio.
I just spotted a little blurb on Idolator about Mehr's book (source: idolator.com/384141/spin-is-out-standing-in-a-field) which makes me a good deal more excited about his book than AOBTS: And now a quick word for Bob Mehr's "Unsatisfied," a profile which beats the drum for a reunion by one of the few holdouts of the alt-rock golden age: the Replacements. KK has sympathy for Mehr, since a.) his article appears at around the same time as an identically intended piece in Billboard.com and b.) he's at work on a book on the Replacements shortly after the publication of Jim Walsh's oral history of the band, All Over But the Shouting. That the evidence of this piece indicates that Mehr's prospective book, unlike Walsh's, will have input from Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson is cold comfort in a market for books that probably won't support two histories on this one band.

If both books had come out the same day, sure that's possible. But anybody who would cares enough to buy one biography would certainly buy the second a year or so later. Hell, most of us have now bought the first four albums at least three times (four for me including the original vinyls).
